I don't think Rowell can be traded. Isn't there a rule that says you cannot trade a draftee for one whole calender year after signing? I doubt they trade Rowell anyways, but he is one of my favorite prospects.

They'd have to take Izcrapis off of our hands as well before I even consider it. How about Bedard, Tejada, and Markakis for Z, Izturis, and Jones? Throw in Eyre plus eat his salary if need be. Throw in Marshall if needed as well.

Maddux was the exception, not the norm.

 

Re: Lilly as the ace, I'm not okay with Lilly being the Ace (besides, it'd be Prior if healthy, if not then Hill, or possibly Bedard if he was in the trade). I wouldn't decide whether or not to make that trade based on it leaving Lilly as the ace. I'd make a decision based on whether or not it improved the team, and I think that trade would. The question is, whether you weigh more for short term or long term improvement. Coming off of a 66 win season, I'm not looking to win it all this year. I'd be looking long term, and I believe that trade improves the team more in the long run than the short run. If the downfall of that trade is that it leaves Lilly as the ace, then that's a bigger sign that we're not put together to seriously contend this year anyways, which is all the more reason to make a long-term trade.

Maddux didn't have chronic back problems stemming from weight that he couldn't keep off as the season went on so early in his career, either. Greg also wasn't put through the endurance test like Z has under Dusty. Maddux didn't get abused because he was a vet and his limits were known. Dusty viewed younger pitchers as a blank slate that he could do with as he pleased. Zambrano very easily might see the problems of that very soon.
