My buddy just told me the Bears extended Vasher for 5 years (not confirmed info, just his word).

This is odd because I thought they were going to wrap up Tillman first (seeing as that he's much more valuable). But he also told me they are in the process of getting Tillman done.

Just confirmed on the score.

Yeah, I saw Jersey's link just as he posted it.

I am glad to have Nathan, I think he's a hard worker and a great guy. I just hope we can get the guy who would be truly hard to replace, Tillman.

Bears just signed the wrong corner to an extension. Vasher is a disposable player. Good luck finding a corner that can do what Tillman does.(excluding his brutal 06 season)

Wow, the Bears news coming hot & heavy today!!

Nobody can say we didn't try with Tank, but keeping him around after this would have turned the Bears into pushovers. You get one second chance, as they say.

Good deal on Vash:

“It’s the attitude,” he said. “It’s a place where winning is expected, and you really can’t trade that for anything. I always wanted to be part of a winner and through the past couple years that’s exactly what we’ve done. We’ve added a lot of pieces as far as players and we continue to get better each and every year, so you can’t be anything but excited.”

Gotta love that.

Who said we aren't signing Tillman? Where are you getting that?

Yeah, it will get done. Angelo knows which one is harder to replace.

They actually said on the radio that a deal is "in the works".

I will be really tough to give deals both starting corners.

I'd be interested in seeing how much the extension is for. Vasher is a very good cover 2 CB. As long as this deal isn't cost prohibitive when it comes to extending tillman, Berrian, and or Rex, then I have no problem with it.

Da Bears pay their guys. Briggs is a tool.

I'm not so sure that's true.

I hope they can sign both, but if i had to choose between one of them, I take Tillman easily.

All things being equal, I would too. Tillman could be asking for signifigantly more money than Vasher was. I'm interested on seeing the size of this deal.

This makes me feel like it was a fair deal on both sides:

Vasher, meanwhile, was more interested in receiving a lucrative extension with the reigning NFC champions than hitting the open market following the upcoming season.

“It’s an exciting time right now and it’s just good to get it done and over with,” Vasher said. “The whole process went well. I made no bones about wanting to be here and my agent understood that. Mr. [Jerry] Angelo and those guys really stretched and made it work, so I’m really happy about it.

Yeah, most of the roster was signed prior to the increase in salary cap. Their most expensive player, Urlacher, doesn't make an insane amount of money.

Inking Vasher to a long-term deal will not hamper the Bears’ ability to re-sign other players such as cornerback Charles Tillman, wide receiver Bernard Berrian or quarterback Rex Grossman who are due to become unrestricted free agents next offseason.

That's from the Bears official story, and I think it's a sign taht something will get done. The Bears are very good at keeping the guys they want to keep, and I would bet they do in this case.

i like the extension. i'll defer to angelo to pick and choose who he wants to re-sign. he's shown he keeps the guys he wants, if he wants to keep tillman, he'll do just that.

Vasher is the perfect player for his role. Cover 2, takes the #2 WR. He's great at what he is required to do. No problem re-signing him. I do worry about Tillman, as he has to be salivating looking at the contract Nate Clements received, even though he isn't thought of as being as good.

It'd be great if they can extend Harris, Tillman and Vasher but Harris and Tillman are definitely more important to re-sign. Good to hear they are negotiating with Peanut and they already inked Vasher. Oh, and they also need to extend Berrian.

Glad to hear about Vasher, i really like his skills at CB especially in this defense. Im pretty confident Tillman will get signed too. Im really not worried about the Bears and the cap, they have plenty of room and the cap will continue to grow. The only albatross is Ogun and by the time his deal is up is when Harris is due his money so they will just reslot that money to DT. If the Bears trade A. Brown more cap room will be freed up. The only problem is if Rex goes out and puts up an amazing year, and that would be a great thing.

Too bad about Tank, i liked him. It needed to be done though.

The deal seems very reasonable to me. Only 14 million guaranteed. Extending the players you drafted before they hit the open market is a great strategy. I don't know how much Vasher would have gotten if he had hit the open market, but I'd guess it'd be more than he got with the Bears. He's a perfect fit for his role and I'm sure he knows it.

Although the Bears signed Vasher to a five-year deal through 2012 that included $14 million in guaranteed money, and are believed to have proposed a similar extension to Tillman, who is entering the final year of his contract[cliped stuff about not extending Briggs - we know this]

Look for Harris, who seems to be well on his way to a full recovery from the hamstring surgery that ended his 2006 season after a dozen games, to be the next target of the Bears' front office for a long-term extension.
