If the Bears could get that #6 pick and McIntosh for Briggs/31st overall, it would be a great trade. Briggs is still more of a system LB as the weak side OLB, IMO. His strengths as a player fit the WILL better than almost anyone in the game.

If they did pull that off, I would be hoping that Thomas falls to the 6th. Get a good OG in the 2nd rd. and trade up for Irons in the 3rd. :)

There's not humanly way the Arizona Cardinals at #5 would ever pass on Joe Thomas. They have young players at all the skilled positions on offense. They have a decent, young defense. A great LT is all keeping them from being a serious contender, IMO.

I know, unfort. after that (maybe Landry) there aren't many players of that quality that fit what the Bears need. Maybe trade down a few spots and pick up Levi Brown.

Even though Arizona perpetually ruins the OL they draft, it does appear they have Thomas on their radar.

I'd love a trade down for Levi. Hard to count on that, though.

I don't think the Bears would pick OL that early. I think with OL and CB, they have shown that they will take a chance on value being there later in the draft. At #6, I can see them taking a guy like Amobi Okoye, because of youth and upside. Landry I would love, but can't really see with Archuleta, Brown and Danieal already on the roster.

A counter offer from JA to the Skins expected today.

"Sources said the Bears will ask the Redskins for a player in addition to the sixth pick, which they likely would trade to stockpile more first-day draft picks. Sources say the Bears could ask for middle linebacker Lemar Marshall, who started the last two seasons but will be a backup with the arrival of London Fletcher. The Bears also might ask the Redskins to part with either linebacker Rocky McIntosh, for whom the Redskins gave up two draft picks to select in the second round of last year's draft, or defensive tackle Kedric Golston, the fifth-round pick who played his way into the starting lineup last year, replacing Joe Salave'a."

I think despite Johnson's uncertain season, with Dvorcek and Adams at DT coming, I don't see it as much of a need early.

I'm expecting Manning to be moved to CB and groomed to be the starting CB next year when Vasher likely leaves via FA.

I'd like any of those guys.

I don't see DT as a need either. But the group of DTs does have 2 guys coming off of major injuries and another guy who will most likely be suspended for 4-8 games. I think a guy like Okoye is young enough and has the athletic ability a team like the Bears would get excited by, moreso than Alan Branch.

Okoyes Pro Day. He ran a 4.85, compared to a 5.07 at the combine. Said the 5.07 was from a sore hamstring. I thought it was weird he and Branch ran the same time.

From the Bears Convention. Ron Turner talks about implementing the shotgun for Grossman..

“That was one of the things I have in my notes; that we do need to implement (the) shotgun, that that is something that would help him a little bit. It won’t be a drastic change to what we do offensively, but we will go to some shotgun, especially more in the third down situations. You will see more of that.”

Hahaha, sorry Olin, you've been overruled by common sense.

Trading Briggs and the 31st pick for the 6th pick and Rocky McIntosh is on par with other great Chicago trades like the Bulls/Knicks trade or the Cubs getting Aram, Kenny Lofton for Bobby Hill, etc from the Pirates.

are they referring to the Magic Shotgun?

because the Magic Shotgun is the formation that instantly turns rex grossman into a hall of fame player.

Is there a non-magic shotgun? I thought it was just assumed.

i always thought that the Magic Shotgun would be well used with orton at QB, as he often falls down for no reason when dropping back.

Too lazy to link it, but ESPN.com is saying that today is the deadline for the deal.

Here ya go.

ESPN[/url]"]A proposed trade sending Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs to the Washington Redskins could go through or totally collapse by Tuesday afternoon, depending on how the Bears react to the Redskins' offer.

Last week, the Redskins made a one-time offer for Briggs, offering to swap their first-round draft pick, the sixth overall, for the Bears' No. 31 overall pick. The Redskins offer was take-it-or-leave it, and they told the Bears that they wanted an answer no later than Tuesday.

The Bears have been hinting they might ask for an additional Redskins linebacker to make the trade, but the Redskins made it clear to the Bears on Monday that if they ask for more than the proposed draft-pick swap, the trade talks are over.

Unless someone wasn't telling the truth that Angelo was going to seek more, I guess that means this deal is a non-starter.

This comes down to how desperate the Bears are. Gonna be a lot of pride involved, though, as Briggs is dictating he be traded and the Skins are dictating the terms. If the Bears feel Briggs is serious, they will take this deal. If not, I would go straight to the Giants to see what they would offer.
