I don't know if this was mentioned yet, but the Reds are also looking into acquiring Dustin Hermanson in case Guardado isn't ready until mid-late summer.

Source?

Source.

Thanks, I didn't get back in time to respond. I saw it on cnnsi.com (which I'm not sure how valid those "rumors" are.

The Cincinnati Enquirer[/url]"]

The Reds had people watch right-hander Dustin Hermanson pitch Wednesday afternoon.

Hermanson, a 34-year-old from Springfield, Ohio, has worked out for prospective teams in Scottsdale, Ariz., to show that his back is sound.

He pitched only 62/3 innings last year because of the back injury.

"He's pitching as we speak," Reds general manager Wayne Krivsky said Wednesday afternoon. "He missed a lot of time with the back. There's work left to be done."

Hermanson, if healthy, would be an option to close for the Reds. He saved 24 games and had a 2.04 ERA for the Chicago White Sox in 2005. He saved 17 games for San Francisco in 2004.

"There are still a few big-league pitchers out there," Krivsky said. "The offseason doesn't end at Christmas or Jan. 1.

"At some point, you want stability and to go with what you've got. But we're still looking."

Hermanson is an 11-year major-league veteran who has pitched in a variety of roles. He went 14-13 with a 4.45 ERA in 2001 in 33 starts for St. Louis. He's 73-78 with a 4.21 ERA for his career. His agent told espn.com that Hermanson's back is fine.

This is just getting ridiculous.

It just keeps getting better:

Kerry Ligtenberg-R-Reds Feb. 14 - 3:54 pm et

Reds signed RHP Kerry Ligtenberg to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Ligtenberg had a 3.57 ERA and 18 saves for Triple-A Iowa last season. The 35-year-old last pitched in the majors with the Diamondbacks in 2005 and had a 13.97 ERA in 9 2/3 innings. He shouldn't make the Reds.

What the hell is wrong with acquiring cheap arms to compete for spots? Not everyone has 300 mil to throw around.

Austin Kearns, Felipe Lopez, Ryan Wagner to Washington for Bill Bray, Gary Majewski, Brendon Harris, Royce Clayton and Daryl Thompson.

Do you have any idea what I would have given up for Felipe Lopez and Austin Kearns?

Bill Bray seems like a decent bullpen arm. Nothing more, nothing less. Gary Majewski is damaged goods. Brendon Harris is now a Tampa Bay Devil Ray, Royce Clayton is now a Toronto Blue Jay. I've never even heard of Daryl Thompson.

That trade will rank as one of the worst ever when all is said and done.

The worst ever? Kearns and Lopez will have to get better for that to be the case-they are nice major league players, but nothing more than that. Worst ever trades are when somebody trades a HOF or somebody like that for somebody who flames out, not when pretty good players are traded for nothing.

Now, I will give you that it was one of the worst trades at the time of the trade I have ever seen, but we knew that back in July-not only did it not work out for the Reds, but it really never had a chance of working out for them.

I believe I said ONE of the worst trades ever. That does not quantify it as the worst trade ever. Why so nitpicky tonight?

Sorry, kids I taught were a little wild tonight. I just don't think this deal will be remembered at all in 3-5 years when Kearns and Lopez have probably moved on to other teams (as many average to good but not star major leaguers do)-we can definitely agree that it was a horrible trade from the get-go, and shows no sign of changing now :D.

Understandable and reasonable. I might be jumping the gun on how much of an impact this trade will have in future years. Probably nothing like Anderson for Bagwell.

But, I like Lopez and Kearns a lot. I probably would have given up more for Lopez by himself than Washington gave up for Lopez, Kearns AND Wagner. What would that be? Izturis, Wuertz, Eyre and some unheard of farm hand?

8 months later, at least 2 of those guys aren't even with Cincinnati anymore. Just a horrible trade.
