I'm praying that Lilly can win 10 games this year. So I went back and looked to see when the last time we had a decent lefty starter. I had to go all the way back to 1993 to find our last lefty starter who was worth a damn.

That's astonishing

If you would have made me guess, I probably would have said Ken Holtzman.

lilly and hill will both win over 10 this year (hopefully)

you can wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which gets filled first.

:)

That'd be sweet if both did.

If you stay in the rotation for a year, is it really that hard to win 10 games?

Hill pitched half the year, with wins in only two months, and still won 6 games.

Ted Lilly has won at least 10 games each of the past four years, and has won as many as 15.

Win 10 games or crap in your hands?

I think Kenny Rogers did both.

Wow, looking at that stat really suprises me. I guess I have really never thought about it though. That is pretty bad for a team lol. From management all the way to the players. Maybe that is why we have sucked for so long haha.

This is the year though!

You mean the great Shawn Estes never won ten games as a Cub?!?!?

I think Lilly and Hill could both win 10 games easily if they stay healthy and the offense is somewhat more productive than last season.

Wasn't there some stat where Hill was the first LH to come out of the Cubs system and win 1 game since the 80's?

It's a strange stat, but I don't think it's all that meaningful. What arm you throw with doesn't matter, and win totals aren't the end all of pitcher evaluation.

It's not like the lack of 10 game winning LHP was the reason the team hasn't won much.

That can't be accurate. Scott Downs won four games for the Cubs in 2000, and he was originally drafted and signed by the Cubs. Mind you, he was traded to the Twins and then back to the Cubs before he ever made his major league debut. Most of his minor league experience was as a Cub prior to his debut.

That being said, the Cubs haven't exactly had a ton of great seasons from lefties throughout history. That includes pitching (especially relief pitching) and hitting.

Oh right, Downs. I just remember this whole lefty pitcher thing coming up frequently. It's almost as if any lefty that pitches for the Cubs is doing some sort of first.

I think it's no more than a side story. The Cubs have lacked quality players, lefty, righty, or both.

Didn't we lose him to the Marlins in the expansion draft? Ah, the good ol' days. ;)

You're a little backwards.

November 17, 1992: Drafted by the Florida Marlins from the Chicago White Sox as the 12th pick in the 1992 expansion draft.

November 17, 1992: Traded by the Florida Marlins to the Chicago Cubs for Gary Scott and Alex Arias.
