According to the Fort-Worth Star Telegram, Norv Turner is the front-runner for the Dallas head coaching position.

Yeah, really. How the heck is this guy such a hot commodity every season?

I don't think he's so much a hot commodity as a seat-warmer for Jason Garrett. There are few better for that job considering he's immensely popular amongst 90s-era Cowboys (Aikman, Irvin, Emmitt, etc.).

Jones is just taking his time until Lovie becomes available on Monday.

How does he become available?

Cha ching. Money talks and if the Cowboys want him I'm sure they'll "contact" him and let him know that the money is there for him. If the Bears decide to go on the cheap or in their words a "fair" price they may lose out on Lovie. I know he has a year left in his deal but something may be worked out. I like Lovie and I think he is a very good coach but the Boys may make a very good offer that the Bears my accept. This all depends on 3 things:

-Do the Bears lowball Lovie

-Is Lovie really interested in going to Dallas

-Is Jones willing to pay the picks for Lovie

While I think Jones is more than willing to pay the $$ for Lovie, I don't think he's willing to pay with picks. It's not his way. Jones has always believed the talent on the field is more important than the coach.

My guess is that after interviewing Singletary, Jones will attempt to hire both Turner and Singletary away from the 49ers. I think his true desire is for Turner to come aboard to groom Garrett and have Singletary run the defense. Garrett and Singletary would give the Cowboys two young talents on each side of the ball and the one who shows the most promise would end up becoming the next coach when Turner steps down.

You're probably right and you would know more about Jones than I would. I was just curious on the Cowboy draw and how it might effect Lovie along with the fair offer from the Bears. I like Lovie being a Bear coach, he seems like a good man and is a very good coach and he seems to have a lot of Bear fan posters here pretty happy with him.

But Turner? How long can these guys live off the Walker trade? I don't think any of the Cowboy assistants have done anything in the NFL from those glory years, have they?

Lovie's not Nick Saban. Saban's a lying piece of trash. When Lovie says he wants to stay in Chicago, it's because he wants to stay in Chicago.

The money may become a contention but there is plenty of time to work out a deal.

You won't see Lovie skipping out on his contract. Not ever. That's probably why Jones & the Cowboys are interested in him----he gives something Dallas hasn't had since Landry: honest, straight-shooter.

I think it's hilarious that NOW the country realizes what we've known all along: Lovie rules.

Lovie to the Cowboys is more of a media driven rumor than anything else. All indications are that the Cowboys are going in another direction. Lovie a mortal lock to be extended by the Bears.

Probably. What is the relationship between Lovie and the Bears owner and GM'?

And Vance, I heard that Coach P is one of six assistants still under contract with the Cowboys.

I believe that is correct. We've lost our QB coach to the Gnats and the DC to the Falcons, but so far no other defections.

i was thinking this exact thing. but lovie isn't available and the bears would have to give permission to jones to talk with smith. that ain't happenin'. the mccaskey family would burn halas hall to the ground before they'd see jones talk to the coach--and that's saying a lot because the mccaskey family is the cheapest in all of football.

lovie was with angelo in tampa and was brought in by the man, who was desperate to get rid of hatley-hire jauron, going so far as to sabotage the 2003 bears by cutting ted washington, and watching the defense fall apart. i'll never forgive angelo for that, he's a low-down dirty piece of human garbage for stabbing jauron in the back like that--it was as transparent as you can get.

however, angelo is the best GM in chicago save for kenny williams, who i don't really think about as i can care less about the sox.

it's really ted phillips' call, he'll re-up them both soon enough. lovie is not a free agent.

I don't think this is really true anymore. They have signed some high profile and expensive free agents recently.

I think that's a laughable stance to take. That was not a championship caliber team, and Ted Washington was a fat slob who help the team in 2001 but did nothing because he couldn't stay healthy in 2002 when the team collapsed. He trade Ted in the preseason for a 4th round pick, which was used on Nathan Vasher I believe.

The fact is the Bears wouldn't be where they are if Angelo didn't start cutting the fat when he did. To "never forgive him" and calling him a "low-down dirty piece of human garbage" is just plain ignorant if you're a Bears fan interested in the team having success.

It's not even close to true.

I think the overall point is, Lovie is not some lame-duck coach or a holdover from another era. This is the hand-picked, chosen leader of this franchise as chosen by the current regime.

Lovie, as they say, is Angelo's boy.

To digress a little bit with you on Jauron-----I agree it was slimy the way Angelo handled that, but if you remember the McCaskey's hadn't given Jerry full GM control yet. There probably was little else he could do to try and get the control he needed to win with this franchise. The first step is always to put the people in place who you trust. Jauron, though a nice guy, was a product of the Hatley era and beholden to a completely different philosophy which Angelo didn't care about. And, if you'll remember from the Shoop madness, Jauron showed he was unwilling to bend for his new boss. So I forgive Jerry for that whole deal.

A league source believes the Cowboys will name a head coach on Wednesday.

Link.

If it's Turner, I think Dallas is in trouble.

And I'm suprised. Turner is the safe, blah choice. I didn't think Jones would go that way.

I think Garrett is the choice for the future. Jerry is looking for someone who can help groom him. If Turner is the choice, it will be imperative that a strong defensive coordinator be brought on board.

I thought I had heard that Singletary could only leave the 49ers to become a head coach somewhere. This is due to his having the title "assistant head coach."

I could be wrong on this, though.
