This is more of a rant, and could possibly be moved.

Last night, between CSI reruns and the trompsing of OSU I found something on TV that made my stomach turn (again if you read my Bears posting).

One of the "wonderful" stations here in "baseball heaven" decided that it was an appropriate time to replay the game where McGuire hit #62 against, you guessed it, the CUBS. I was less than bored. There were players such as Sammy Sosa, Delino(?) Desheilds and Ray Lankford on the field (for either team). And in the dugout for the Chicago Cubs, manager (Jim or Dave cant remember his first name) Wiggleman. It made me thankful for where we are and where we could be. It also reminded me of how much I despise Mark McGuire and how could he EVER be compared to Roger Maris (yes, the broadcasters WERE comparing). It was a sad sad evening for me. Until the person controlling the remote (who ofcourse is a Cardinals fan) fell asleep..................

"yes honey you do have to watch the 6 back to back episodes of Friends.............". :)

***EDIT ok did my research, its Jim (I am sure most of you knew that) and its Riggleman(?really, I swear it said Wriggleman) but I just pulled up an archive out of the Chicago Tribune from Sept 1999 and the title was "Just call him Wiggleman"....... Guess I wasn't too far off.

I'm not sure why you would be thankful of where we are...5th place in the central...when that team was a wild card team. Granted, they weren't a very good wild card team, but nonetheless, they were sure better than the 06 Cubs.

We definitely have some potential this year, but I'm not ready to say that we'll be a better team than 98.

And Riggleman doesn't get enough credit as a manager.

I was going to say...............

And I was OBVIOUSLY NOT talking about last year. I was talking about this upcoming year and the team we could have had with very little moves, compared to the team we now have because someone gave the green light on spending. I could see where it would be confusing.

Scared to ask, but why do you say that?

I just think things are better here when you're around. ;)

I am very happy someone feels that way about me!!! Thanks Vance.

I'll never forget how ticked off Trachsel looked when Big Mac got high-fives from Cub infielders as he rounded the bases.

Wasn't he saying a few weeks prior how there was "no way" that he'd be the one to give up the homer?

Yeah I remember that - it was like his worst nightmare which this article only hints at:

He denied feeling betrayed by his teammates but I didn't blame him one bit for being pissed; the Cubs were fighting for a playoff berth.

You could've just turned the channel.

Did you read the end of my post?? That would have been really easy if I was the one holding the remote. It was his turn to watch something. That is how I became forced to watch it. TRUST ME, I ended up cleaning the bathroom for the rest of his turn, thats how bad I did NOT want to watch.

I'm just saying that I know Sandberg's first name is Ryne. I grew up watching him. I was kidding. I thought Vance was pulling your leg, and I jumped in. :)

Wiggleman. *Snickers*

That was funny. Good one. :D

One of the Sporting News columns at the time (Caught on the Fly, I believe) referred to him as Wrigleyman.
