Please evaluate on their lack of knowledge and ability. Think of this as the Cy Young award for poor sports journalism/analysis. I'm including local people in this as well as national media types.

This should be broken down into different categories:

Ex-jock analysts

Muckraking columnists

Hype whores

Glory Days reactionaries

Yes, some people could fit into multiplee categories, but you can make some clear disctinctions.

McCarver is the worst ex-jock analyst, because not only does he say the same stupid things as Morgan, but he makes no sense when he talks.

Mariotti is the worst muckraker.

Stephen A. is the worst hype whore.

And hatguy is the worst glory days writer.

I wanted to break it up, but I'm at work and didn't have time to set them all up. Ideally, you'd pick the worst from each group, and then a final worst of the worst poll.

FWIW, I went with Cowherd, because of all these people, I feel he brings the least to the table. And with this group, that's saying something. I've never once heard him make a good point.

EDIT:

Mike Lupica might be worse than HatGuy when it comes to glory days writing.

This poll ranks up there with the hottest chick polls in terms of diversity in qualified options and the weight of personal taste in the final outcome.

That said, I went with Jor Morgan, simply because of how painfully obvious his personal biases show through in all his sportscasting and the level of stupidity that goes with them. That can be said for others (ie Buck, McCarver), but Morgan's just get to me more.

Also, I'm going to have to stick up for Muskat here. Yea, she selects questions like that of Edward K. from Indy for her mailbag and her 'analysis' can hardly be described as such, but she's also not really in a position to provide any real insight to begin with, lest she go the way of Steve and Chip. Her job seems to me like it's at least as much about propogating optimism and enthusiasm about this team as it is providing any amount of analysis, and that's definitely not a job for anyone who cares to write about them for the way they really are. Plus, she also gets more scrutiny just for being a Cubs talking head. I'm sure there are dozens of other beat writers and local coverage types who qualify just as much as she does, we'll just never know as much about them as we do about her.

Tim McCarver.

You have a very good point.

And a rockin sig.

I had to go with Morgan. It is him and him alone that drove me away from Sunday Night Baseball. Maybe its smaller doses but McCarver and Buck cant drive me away from playoff baseball. Morgan has done that too.

maybe we should have a morotorium on mariotti-bashing until he's recovered from heart surgery.

Just knowing that people are talking about him (good or bad) might lift his spirits.

Morgan gets the nod. Although McCarver says more unintelligible things, at least he watches baseball. I'd be surprised if Morgan watches any game aside from the ones he announces (and even then......). Throw in the two Emmys, the refusal to even acknowledge sabermetrics, and the clear anti-Sandberg bias, and it's obvious he's the son of Satan.

Great poll. I felt like a five-year-old looking at a pile of Halloween candy and being told he can only eat one.

I think we'll have to do a deal where everyone who gets a vote, moves on to a Uber-Bad Journalist poll.

I vote for Mariotti because I can predict what his columns are going to say with about 70% accuracy before I even open the Suntimes. His shtick is tired, old, and predictable. Edited by Chocolate Milk
