What happened to the "100 reasons Cubs will be better in (Insert year here)"

people don't seem to be as giddy this offseason. Rightfully so.

It's been a lot better than the previous two offseasons, for what that's worth.

But it is coming off a season that was so much worse.

That's true, but I don't recall too many being "giddy" since the 2003-04 offseason. It's been cautious optimism at best. At least after last year, we know the improvement won't have to be too great to win in this dumpster of a division, and it would take something utterly catastrophic for the Cubs to be as bad or worse than last year.

I'm in one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" moods.

Yes but there was optimism and just excitement in general for baseball in past offseasons. This offseason, while the moves have been there sorta, but after being kicked in the proverbial groin 96 times last year (and many more off the field), its just harder to get excited for Cubs baseball. I am mildly excited for it, and very excited for baseball in general to start however.

I'm sure I am not the only one who is always excited during the Cub off season. This one has been pretty good - if you look at how much money was spent.

I can honestly say that I was more excited about the Maddux acquisition after the 2003 season than the Soriano one this off season. At the time, Maddux rounded off what should have been the best pitching rotation in the game.

There is always reason for optimism.

Only 39 days until I leave for spring training. I'll come up with something soon. I'd say "patience," but this is a Cubs fan board and nobody want to hear "patience."

Any word on Jacque Jones? Think he's gonna be a Cub when the season starts?

Hard to tell. Ideally, I'm sure the Cubs would like to move him and his (by this off-season's financial standards) moveable contract. But they've gotten nothing for guys like Sosa and Patterson in the past, so I'm sure they're not just going to give Jacque away. He can be a pretty serviceable player in a lineup that has Soriano, Barrett, Lee, Ramirez and Murton (yes, Murton!) all healthy and producing.

If he does stay, is he going to center or would Soriano?

Bruce,

with the recent injury to rivera, is there any likelyhood of a jones for figgins swap that has been suggested?

From Day One, the Cubs said they got Soriano to play right. I believe it will stay that way.

I don't see this trade happening. I'd rather have Jones.
