I agree with most that it should be Benson, butLovie may disagree.

On Wednesday, Smith seemed to indicate that Jones would get more carries, but he didn’t say the Bears would go back to their early-season routine of giving Jones twice as many carries as Benson.

Common sense says that once the game begins, the more productive player will get the most carries.

“Our trend, as it’s been all along, is to play both running backs,” Smith said. “The situations have allowed Cedric to play more lately. Of course, he’s taken advantage of the reps he’s gotten. But, as we go into the playoffs, Thomas Jones is our starter. He’ll get the majority of the reps, and Cedric will be next in line.”

I read yesterday, that Benson has bulked up to 230. He's clearly the better runner now. TJ will be on another team next year. The writing is on the wall.

I don't care who starts. I really don't care who plays more. But if Thomas Jones is dancing thru holes as they close up, I want Benson in there, who hits them hard consistently.

If Jones is running like he has in his good games this year, it's a no-lose situation.

But yeah, I hope they trade Jones in the offseason and bring in a RB in the middle rounds of the draft.

What's his contract situation? I believe it was very team friendly when he signed, and he didn't have a crazy bonus that would make a trade nearly impossible.

Ideally Grossman has a great postseason run, and some team wants both Griese and Jones for a couple mid round picks. Then draft a QB and RB with those picks and save your regular picks for defensive help and O line. It would be funny if Tampa tried to get them both back.

Wow, had no idea this board was so high on Benson. Isn't it a concern that he's taken this long to develop?

I don't really know what that means. He hasn't been given much of a chance to play, but when he does, he generally plays well. I think he could have been the starter all year long.

He only played 9 games last year due to injury, and he recovered very well. I don't understand what that means, "taken this long to develop," because he was only a rookie last year.

Jones' contract is up after next season. I'd really like to see the roles switched next year, with Benson getting most of the carries and Jones getting 5-10 a game.

Absolutely agreed on my part. Benson is the type of RB you want on this team, and not the boom-bust type player that Thomas Jones is.

What I like about Benson is that he never gives up until he is 100% down. That makes it a lot harder for the defender to tackle him, and the team gains a lot more yards in the long run.
