Sosa will need a major overhauling. His bat speed isn't quick enough for his stance and that hit to the head brought the element of fear to his game. He never stood as close to the plate as he did before the Torres FB.

Yep. Pitchers really exposed the outside portion of the plate after the beanball. His bat speed definitely isn't there anymore, but he "could" make an adjustment in his stance to take away the outside weakness.

Will he? That will ultimately decide whether he gets any significant playing time next year.

To all the people that are griping about any possibility of Sosa coming back - do you just enjoy bad endings?

Wouldn't it be better (for everyone) if somehow Sosa returned to the majors, and had a decent year? Who is that hurting? Quit drinking so much Haterade for breakfast.

I don't care who it is, and I don't care where he plays. If they come to spring training and earn the job they can have it. I'm tired of crowd favorites, managers toys, and people being payed too much to sit the bench. Play well keep playing. I'm sure they could give everybody enough at bats to find out who stays and who goes.

Yup. And who could argue that Sosa wouldn't put in that extra drive and effort to make it work with the Cubs. There's so much good that could happen as opposed to bad here. I know it won't happen, but man, it'd be nice to see Sosa run out to RF again eh?

I'd shed a tear and dust off my old Sammy jersey T.

Well, I still wear it, but I'd still dust it off and wear it upon a return.

He won't be back, though. Damn shame, too. He was the only reason (and I do mean the only reason) to watch for about three years and he got treated the way he did.

Sammy was/is a self centered egomaniac. Having said that, he was the only reason to watch Cubs baseball from 1998-2002. He put up monstrous numbers, and allowed me to feel a small measure of pride in something about my favorite team when there was nothing else. He also did so while managing to avoid at least the same measure of steroid scrutiny that haunts Bonds and McGwire. His 1998 and 2001 seasons remain some of the greatest stuff I have seen as a baseball fan. Every once in a while I still watch some archived highlights, with my favorite being the HR derby in Atlanta.

He is my second favorite ballplayer ever, behind Ryne Sandberg, and my enormous collection of Sammy memorabilia will bear testament to that.

If he does come back I hope he does well, but I really hope he stays retired and doesn't make a fool of himself.

Can you say Michael Jordan playing for the Washington Wizards? Don't embarass yourself Sammy, stay retired!

Yeah like so bad you were one of three NBA players to average 20 5 and 5. Pure emabrassment.

The notion you put forth that MJ could embarass himself on a basketball court, even if he tried, is freakin' insane.

Agreed, an older MJ was still a great player.

I still think the best option for him would be the Colorado Rockies..

nah, the humidor would defeat him

I think his bat speed and inablility to make good contact would ultimately defeat him, rather than the humidor.

It truly is a shame that ego and other non-baseball reasons will be used for not bringing in a guy like Sammy to platoon with Jones (or Floyd) in RF.

I don't consider sucking at baseball to be a "non-baseball reason." Sammy was washed up 2 years ago and he won't be any better now.

If Sammy platooned with Jones/Floyd, he would face primarily left handed pitching since Jones/Floyd can't hit LHP. Sammy's 2005 line vs LHP was .288/.370/.471/.841. That's a hell of a lot better than what Jones/Floyd would do against LHP.

Well, we're talking about 2007 and Sammy missed last season and will be two years older. Let's all be realistic.

I was mainly pointing out that Sammy wasn't "washed up 2 years ago". And when he was "washed up" he still hit LHP pretty well.

I thought of that after I posted. I still don't think he'd be good now, though.
