low 3's ERA, lots of K's. I don't think he's going to be Cy-Worthy, but he's a top tier pitcher imo

If he puts up a low 3 ERA with lots of strikeouts in Fenway Park with that defense, he's Cy-worthy.

I happen to think he's going to do that, by the way.

i hope he does horrible so bill simmons suffers

i hope daisuke and jd drew both have amazing seasons but ortiz sucks and varitek and schilling and papelbon all get hurt and miss the whole season.

If that happened, he would try to ignore the fact that he was ever critical of Matsuzaka or JD. He is good at revisionism.

He'll be just like Hideo Nomo. Once they figure out his rotation, he'll go from a top tier pitcher to a batting practice pitcher.

Is this because all Japanese pitchers are alike? Just like all white pitchers?

Oh c'mon Tim, you know that isn't what he meant. What he meant (I assume) is that he's somewhat of a novelty because of his unorthodox pitching. Nomo had the crazy windup, and Mats has the gyroball. The difference as I see it, is that a rotation is something that can be adjusted to after a while. However, a pitch is something that, while it can be expected and looked for, can still fool you time after time. All hitters know what a curveball is, but it still fools them time after time. So, as far as unorthodoxy goes, Mats' legacy should have the one up on Nomo's.

i thought the gyro ball was a myth

Daisuke lives and dies with his 4-seamer and curve, but he also has a good 2-seamer and pretty decent forkball. I don't think there's anything really deceptive about him. He locates with his fastball, which has pretty decent velocity, and has a very good curve.

He's not a "gimmick" pitcher.

It is.

Matzusaka has much better stuff than Nomo. Daisuke isn't a gimmick pitcher and I think it's an awful comparison.
