I agree, Manning has alot to learn. On that long play to Galloway, he was so out of position it was laughable. He wasn't even on his side of the field----almost like he literally fell asleep in his shoes.

Yeah what was up with that. Well at least it appeared he started to catchup to Galloway. It shows how fast he is. Galloway is freakin fast.

It was doomed from the start, the Bears were crossed up on who had who in coverage before the snap, by the time the ball was snapped Manning could not jam Galloway at the line and was in a bad position b/c got at the line late. Galloway isn't the WR to get on the line with and not bump him without safties b/c of the blitz.

On the slant to Hilliard, he just got burned and the safety made a mistake.

I didn't have sound for the game and I don't feel like digging, can someone help explain to me how that kick didn't result in a touchback?

He was clearly across the goal line and there were not one, but two referees standing on the goal line. On top of that, there was a booth review and it still didn't result in a touchback.

What happened?

He re-established himself with both feet in the field of play, before touching the ball.

Thanks. Never heard that one before.

Add that to the apparant rule that made Worrell's risky move to go after the ball just as the opposition was about to down a punt not as risky as I thought, and you've got a couple situations where I was screaming at the TV only to realize I was wrong and the player was not as dumb as I thought.

I threw a tantrum when I saw him come in from inside the goal line to touch that ball. With no sound, I thought for sure it was an easy touchback. Everyone else in the bar thought so too. The real argument was how two different refs could miss the obvious. :D

I really hate it when people can't get their facts correct.

With a 34-31 overtime victory Sunday over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Bears won their 12th game for the first time since 1988. Their 12-2 record, along with New Orleans' loss to Washington, means the Bears will play all their playoff games in January at Soldier Field.

Umm... what happened to the 13-3 record from 2001? Did that just disappear into the ether?

What rule was that about Worrell's play? I don't know if I heard the justification for that.

I heard a vague reference to it that said once the kicking team touched the ball, a return player could pick it up and return it without the risk of a turnover. Basically, it was a no risk situation. I'm guessing a special teams player like Worrell would know all these weird special teams related rules.

I saw that too. I guess that year really was a fluke since they stopped using it in record keeping

The Y2K bug ate it, apparently.

Poor Jauron. Not only did he get run out of town, but his one valiant accomplishment in Chicago has been erased from all memory.

The problem with that is if there's no way you'd actually get good yardage (like the last time he tried that when 5 opposing players surrounded the ball), you're risking touching the ball after the refs don't see that the kicking team had already touched it. And that will just cost you a challenge.

You're also risking getting hit pretty hard by 5 guys.

As for the replay, we were trying to figure out what the heck they were reviewing on the punt. The scoreboards showed numerous times that it was real obvious that it wasn't a touchback. Pretty odd, especially considering the delay between when it happened and when they decided to review it.

I could be wrong, but I believe the refs make a signal when it's been touched, and that is what caused him to go after the ball. It's like a free play after the D-line goes offside.

They likely throw the flag, but usually he wouldn't be able to see that. At least not when things are still going on. If you go after the ball when it's not moving, it likely means that there are opposing players around it and you're not going to be able to do anything with it.

And usually if it's not moving, someone has already touched it. But there's still no real point to do anything. Even if you do get a handle of the ball, they're just going to shove you backwards and take you down.

But I still don't underestimate the ability of some officials to screw things up.

I'm going to enjoy watching this team blow through the NFC competition in the playoffs while the experts keep doubting their ability.

Agreed. The Saints will be the only real NFC competition, and I'm not convinced that they'll be as tough as they've looked at some points.

And the Saints just lost to a very bad Washington team at home. How anyone can say with a straight face that the Saints are better must be crazy.

The Skins are certainly better than the Bucs. And it was fun to see NO's heralded offense shut completely down. If I'm playing NO in the playoffs, the first game tape I study is the Washington game.

As for our game, the first half was great. I'm not sure why the massive breakdowns and turnovers all of a sudden in the 2nd half. But we should have won this game by 20 points. And-----it wasn't the DT's fault either. I don't think Tank Johnson not being there had really any effect at all. Maybe a little in the pass rush.

Not having Vasher----that was obviously a serious handicap. For Nate's part, he says he is 100% and wishes he could play. It's obvious Lovie isn't taking any chances, knowing he absolutely is going to need the interceptor in the playoffs.

You realize the Bucs beat the Redskins a few weeks ago, right? They both suck equally.

I wonder which team it will be that jumps the Bears in ESPN's power polls this week. The Saints jumped em last week, so assuming the Saints fall, I bet either the Bengals-Colts winner, or, if ESPN is truely demented, the Eagles. Cause we all know the Bears certainly aren't the third best team.

Oh, forgot to mention this. The Bears have the best scoreboard graphic to start a chant that I've ever seen. They start playing a clip of John Candy in The Great Outdoors. It's the part when the bear knocks over the door and starts jumping on it while Candy is pinned underneath. And they just keep showing the bear jumping on the door three times (with Let's Go Bears synced up to it) over and over and over again.

Ooooooh yeah. When I first saw that at my first game at new Soldier Field, I couldn't stop laughing.

Skins are better. Bucs caught them just right, while they were switching QBs and suffering the consequences (see Denver). Skins are a better club, as their record indicates.

Apparently the refs review pager system failedat the end of the game on the Davis catch...they wanted to review it.

Also David Haugh thinks thatTank will get another chance, just maybe not this season.

They wisely distinguished between a legal matter handled by the league office—Thursday's misdemeanor charge after Gurnee police raided Johnson's house—and the insubordination Johnson showed in going clubbing hours after general manager Jerry Angelo warned him to straighten up. The NFL handles the former issue, the Bears the latter.

Maybe the Bears will suspend him for the insubordination since they can't for the legal matters?

If the kick team is sleeping, and only one guy is actually standing in front of the ball waiting for it to completely come to a stop, it's possible the return team could pick it up and gain 5-10 yards with ease, taking the team out of really bad field position.

Maybe they are trying to see what the likelihood is of him being able to play in the playoffs before making a decision. If they feel there is a strong chance he'll be in jail before the first game, then there's no benefit to keeping him around this year. (but I still think there is a longterm benefit)
