I've heard a silly internet rumor (that makes a little sense) concerning the A's having interest in Matt Murton. I wonder if the A's would part with Blanton to get him? Then we could turn and deal Hill (who might be without a roster spot anyway) and, say Pie for Carl Crawford.

Rotation in 2007 would be: Zambrano, Blanton, Lilly, Marquis, Prior/Miller

And a lineup of:

1. Soriano LF

2 Crawford CF

3. Lee 1B

4. ARam 3B

5. Barrett C

6. Jones RF

7. Derosa 2B

8. Izturis SS

Would that be enough to compete for a pennant? Would that be enough to get those deals done? Whaddya think?

I've already mentioned twice in the last hour the ideas of trading Jones, not Murton, to the A's for someone like Blanton. A's are looking for an outfielder to replace Payton. Regardless, if we can get someone like Crawford in Murton's place I wouldn't mind to see him go... but at the same time, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that it will never happen, so... but I think a deal with the A's could be made regardless for something. They appear interested in Floyd. We should pick him up and offer one of our other OF'ers to replace Payton.

Not trying to sound like a know it all, but why would TB trade an OF'er and then take on another one that is almost ML ready as part of a trade, when besides Hill, more pitching is prob. what they need more?

Murton is much more a Beane type player, and would net more in return.

Okay, if you could make it Hill and Marshall or Guzman, would you?

Or, if you could then spin Blanton and Jones off for Peavy (in addition to the TB deal) would you do that?

Sure, you'd have to have Soriano in RF, and Pie playing CF and hitting 7th, but would it be worth it to have Crawford in the lineup with Sopriano, Lee and ARam and a rotation of Zambrano, peavy, Lilly, Marquis, Miller/Prior?

If I was TB, I wouldn't do the 1st one and as much I have a soft spot for Blanton, if I was SD, I probably wouldn't do the 2nd one.

The Rays aren't going to trade Crawford. If they move an outfielder, it's going to be Baldelli. If they really want to move Upton to the outfield, it would make more sense to put him in left and move Crawford to center. Crawford can (and has) play center, although I'm sure Upton could handle it.

As it is, I don't see trading Rich Hill as a good idea for the Cubs. I wouldn't object to moving guys like Marshall, Guzman, Marmol, etc. I'm not sure whether that would tempt the Rays to move Baldelli, but I don't see Crawford being moved.

Why would Oakland want another outfielder? They have Bradley, Swisher, and Kotsay.

The impression I've gotten is that Beane is losing faith in Dan Johnson. If all things worked out, Johnson would be at first... but if he's got a chance to upgrade the OF, he'd move Swisher to first.

I can understand a lack of faith in Dan Johnson, but Beane has Daric Barton waiting in the wings, so it's not like he needs more than a short term solution.

Beane might have interest in someone like Murton, but not at the cost of Blanton. There were rumors of an Oakland-Mets trade, but Oakland was asking for Milledge, Heilman and more in return for Blanton, which the Mets were unwilling to pay. I don't really see Blanton as a realistic target for the Cobs.
