I'm biased against Floyd, because in MVP 05, Floyd is a nice little prospect at the outset, but he never gets any better and he's basically worthless. Edited by treebird

Floyd reminds me a lot of Rich Hill with more upside. He came up and has not done that well, but everyone is still expecting him to break out.

Wow! The White Sox surely could have gotten more for Garcia than that. Maybe they just forgot to list Rowand as part of the deal.

It's funny how little is thought of Floyd in this thread.

The kid has high upside (killer curve) who was a former TOP prospect.

If he were a Cub, most of this board would be up in arms and upset about this deal.

Just goes to show you how much our prospects get overvalued on this board while others are generally underrated.

Kenny has a way with these deals. I'm sure he knows the players he got have some good potential.

That and the fact that Freddie is owned a ton of money(for them) and the White Sox can afford to wait on young pitching.

LoL the White Sox fans seem to hate this deal too...

"Where's that puke tag when you need it...."

"this is obsurreed...!!!!! i cant beleive this. i would have rather had rowand in this than gio. i cant beleive this. there better be another trade to follow quick, cause we just got ripped"

"This sounds like a really dumb move...unless we're sending these guys elsewhere, which IMO, think is the case. I still think we could have gotten more in this market, what the hell?"

"Ted Lilly gets 4/40, and Freddy Garcia gets...Gavin Floyd?

Good god."

I think he will be in the rotation, so I am not sure how this gets McCarthy into the rotation also?

There's absolutely no chance Floyd will be in the rotation over McCarthy. The only way Floyd makes it in is if the Sox trade another starter, which isn't something I'd rule out.

Gio Gonzalez was also part of this deal guys. That changes things.

Wait...didn't the White Sox trade him to Philadelphia for Jim Thome?

Yes

or is this a case of you overvaluing other teams prospects? Floyd has been terrible the past couple years at AAA (although behind the league for his age)

For everyone who loves Floyd so much, have you looked at his numbers the last couple year? Because I see a guy who has absolutely sucked in the majors and has not been much better at AAA.

Ha! Yeah he knows them because the best player coming back was the one he traded to Phillie for Thome...who would have guessed he would get Gio back and not Rowand.

Yep. The Phils soured on Floyd bigtime. His signature curve isn't the pitch that it once was. His fastball has lost some of it's life and he's had trouble locating it. They sent him the the AZ Fall league where he struggled this fall. He needed a change of scenery.

Take a look at his 2005 and 2006 seasons.

Contrary to popular belief, Cub fans do give up on promising prospects. Bobby Brownlie rarely gets mentioned anymore.

There comes a point when a guy just doesn't appear to be worth it anymore. Floyd gave up 14 HR's in 54 innings. Not good.
