'Jacque Jones to anywhere, from what I'm hearing,'' one general manager said of the veteran's possible destinations during Day 1 of the winter meetings on Monday.

The Cubs are interested in veteran outfielder Cliff Floyd and appear inclined to use infielder Ryan Theriot more in the outfield.

What is with Hendry and deflating his players' trade value?

Remind me to try and buy his house if/when he puts it up for sale.

Where was Jim Hendry quoted?

I thought he had a limited no-trade clause

According to reports, Jacque wants out of Chicago. He couldn't take the heat from the fans and didn't enjoy his time on the North Side. I say good, get rid of the Bum, just freeing up the 5 million is worth more than anything they can get in return. He had a career best year at the plate and a career worst year in the field. He was never that good to begin with.

If that rumor is true, and Hendry is shopping him to everyone, and it's leaking, then how much leverage can he possibly have?

The Cubs seem really determined to reduce a middle infielder's value by moving him to the outfield.

Not if he can play centerfield. A lot of teams would love a guy with a .360+ OBP at the top of their lineup who can play an adequate CF. It's not as if they are going to put him in LF or RF and ask him to hit 25+ HR's. This is making the assumption that you are going to get that out of Theriot or Patterson.

Guys, guys, the Cubs have gotten great returns on players in the past even when everyone knew that Hendry was desperate to trade them. Just look at what we got for Sosa and Patterson!

I'm wondering if they are thinking of having a Lofton/Theriot platoon in CF.

That would be fine with me if SS was upgraded.

Right, so we should ding Hendry for a three-clause conditional rumor? Let's add a few more clauses, as well, "if it's a full moon, and Steinbrenner has a hemroid, and Mickey Mouse assists the deal as a 'special assistant'".

How do we know this isn't simply a case of Hendry talking to all teams, looking for a deal? The sense of despeartion seems to be added by the reporter, and nothing else.

Sarcasm would have been better than what the Cubs got.

I feel bad a bit. I never thought our fans could actually rag on a player, no matter how sensitive he is, so badly that he is dying to leave town. Granted, I made no racial comments towards Jacque, I have more respect for my fellow man then to do any such thing, but I wasn't exactly welcoming of him.

But hey...you were unwelcoming to Rusch too I'm sure. So at least you were equal in your unwelcoming.... :P

The goal when trading someone is to get as much value for that player as possible. If it becomes a desperation move, much like the Patterson and Sosa deals were, then maybe one should go down a completely different path rather than make the same mistakes all over again.

Doesn't matter whose fault it is that the rumor is Jones is going anywhere, but now it's out there and his value is decreased because of it.

If you can't get value in return for trading him, might as well keep him. Jacque may just have to suffer through another year.

Easy now. It was a joke.

It's not a far leap to assume it's happening, given what Hendry did with other players' trade value.
