I missed the end of it but he had a rumor that the Cubs would get Jennings for Jones and Marmol in a 3-team trade.

If we are dealing with Pit on any level, I'd rather have Maholm or Gorzelanny than Jennings...by a lot.

This is somewhat consistent: earlier in the day it was reported on the WSCR that Colorado wanted more than just Jones and a Cubs prospect for Jennings, and that it was believed Hendry was trying to find a third team. Assume that Pittsburgh trades one of it's left-handers (relief or rotation) to Colorado. What would the Pirates get in return from the Rockies and/or Cubs, Hawpe and more Cubs pitching?

Then again, I doubt Pitts has any intentions of dealing with the Cubs directly, anyways, so your point is moot.

Yeah because they've never dealt with us before....

I also said that before the threads got merged...obviously we have no one near Hawpe's level (other than Soriano).

He probably heard that rumor while he was doing body shots off of Littlefield.

After the ARam fiasco, I just don't see Pitts dealing any "legit" talent to the Cubs, without the Cubs overpaying...ie for Maholm, it would be Guzman/Gallagher/Patterson.

So unless you can get the Rockies to flip Maholm over to the Cubs in this proposed three team trade, then I highly doubt Maholm will ever be available for the Cubs to get.

What was the ARam fiasco? Littlefield knew exactly what he was doing when he traded ARAM. Its not like a Karchner for Garland or D-Train for Alphonseca trade (which haven't stopped us from dealing with the sox or marlins). Its ridiculous to think that the pirates wouldn't trade with us if they think it will help their team. That however is where the problem lies...Hawpe and Maholm are by far and away the two best players in this deal.

"You don't like to trade a player like Ramirez who has come up through their system and performed like he did, but we need better talent and more financial flexibility,'' Littlefield said. "We need a lot more players to help us get to where we want to be.''

I'm not a huge Maholm fan, myself. If money's not an object, I'd rather have Jennings.

But Hawpe is far and away the best player in the deal.

It's moot anyways, as the Cubs are not interested in Maholm. Personally, I'm glad...he's a solid pitcher, and cheap, but nothing to get excited about. I think Marshall and Hill are equal or perhaps better lefties---especially Hill---then Maholm. I much rather have Gonzalez.

My fear is that the cubs now sign Jennings to an extension. And as I've said before Jennings is the starting pitcher version of DeRosa.

I like the deal. I'd love Hawpe but we need pitching anyway. Bring on Jennings if true.

We should just throw in Izturis and get Hawpe too. Although I'd want a prospect too. Izturis has won a gold glove, ya know.

Whereas my hope is that the Cubs get a good year out of him, he goes FA and the Cubs get "A" level comp for him to replace Marmol as a prospect.

I don't think so. Jennings is younger and has a much better past beyond the career year. And, because he's younger that career year is more likely to repeat itself than DeRosa's is. There's no glaring evidence pointing to 2006 being a fluke for Jennings like there is for DeRosa and his BABIP either.
