Trade with O's brewing?

I don't usually post here but I love this site and I always come here first for Cubs news and analysis. I wanted to post this link from an Orioles message board that suggests a trade with the O's is likely. My brother is an O's fan and he says that their insider "BB" aka Big Bird is an O's insider posts on there and has been right about several things in the past. The O's need a LFer so Jones might be a possibility but I don't really know who the O's would send the Cubs (Benson maybe).

Seriously, with that wife of his, he might.

 

Benson is like a Gil Meche without the upside. He stinks, and he's far from a lock to be a 200 innings guy. He's okay for a back of the rotation guy on a team with a great lineup. Unfortunately, Hendry probably thinks he has a great lineup, which he doesn't.

That seems like a pretty good site just from reading that thread. They seem to have knowledgeable posters that understand good baseball concepts. Perhaps BB is their HoopsCubs.

If the Cubs had never traded Patterson, would they have been content enough with Corey to have never signed Soriano?

 

Interesting, but I think they would've still signed and either traded Jones or platooned him somehow with Murton.

I can't see Hendry trading Jones until he has a replacement lined up. No matter what we think of him, Hendry thinks of Jones as a big cog in our lineup and would part with him for a pitcher like Benson. At least, I hope not.

I have a feeling that if the Cubs get Floyd, they will still sign a CF (ala Lofton) and we'll end up with Floyd, Lofton, Soriano with Murton platooning and I don't like that.

 

Floyd and Jones are about the same. Floyd is more productive, but is injury prone.

I know its just me, but if they don't trade with Baltimore, Pittsburg, or Florida, doesn't seem like they trade.

Maybe its Lopez that would come in a trade for Jones. That would be horrible because Lopez sucks. He has had anr ERA over 4.50 almost every year

Yeah I agree those deals all sounded terrible to me too. I have no idea what the Orioles would trade for Jones that would give any kind of value that the Cubs don't already have plenty of.

 

EDIT: Benching Murton for Floyd is the height of stupidity.

floyd gets on at a better clip than jones but he has less power than I thought. he is also equally bad versus lefties so he would definitely need a platoon partner - which might help keep him healthier. I guess I agree with you that the move doesn't make much sense.

Hopefully Hendry isn't going to offer Floyd enough money that he has to "free up" some to get him. I wouldn't mind getting Floyd, but he should not be thought of as a regular, but rather a bench bat with some part-time platooning (250 ABs).
