Looks like a 3 year deal. Also appears Milwaukee misses out on someone they wanted, again.

the Brewers should stop looking the gift horse in the mouth and just give Brady Clark 700 PAs out of centerfield.

I hadn't hear the Brewers were pursuing any FAs. so much for my wild Bill Hall theories.

Roberts was the only guy they were serious about. They are set on getting a CF because they don't like Clark or Gwynn Jr, and Gross is a 4th OF at best. They also want a "leadoff hitter" so they can hit Weeks 3rd, Prince 4th and Hall 5th. Expect Jenkins, Mench, or Clark to be moved for some bum leadoff hitting CF. That or they resign Pods (once the Sox cut him), play him in CF and hit him leadoff.

I ran into Brady Clark recently at a local Barnes & Noble. He picked up several boating magazines then walked by me, so I quickly stopped him. I mentioned to him how much I appreciated the way he played and that it would be great if he played for the Cubs. He was pleasant, thanked me for my kind words and said, "There is no better place to play than Wrigley."

Is there any sort of deal where the Cubs might could get both Hall and Clark away from the Brewers?

:-k

I'm fairly certain they would give Clark away for his salary and a cup of coffee. As I noted multiple times in the Billy Hall thread, I don't think he is going anywhere.

Do you want to part with Don Veal?

Veal for Hall?

Done.

How about Cesar, Dempster, and cash for Hall and Clark, and we pay all the saleries for 2007.

Which would put us at taking on about $13 million total in payroll (Clark and Halls salaries plus the $9 million we'd send to Milkwaukee)

Seems like a fair "posting fee" for a near .900 OPS shortstop.

In this scenario, put Jacque in center, Clark would be our 4th outfielder and potential platoon partner for Jacque, seeing as he put up an .884 OPS against lefties in '05. Just have to see if he bounces back.

Leaves us still with a ton for pitching since only $4 million or so is really "new" payroll.

Brewers would instantly either get a setup man/closer or the fourth guy in their rotation. They save $4 million and could jump into the free agent market.

Of course, you really have to sell the "Cesar was hurt, he's better now, look at his '04" angle to make this happen.

Stupid Giants, they should just blow it up. Now the HAVE to sign Bonds.

What do you mean? How does signing a new leadoff hitter mean that they have to sign Bonds?

The Brewers aren't the Marlins, or the Seibu Lions. They plan on a $60 Million payroll this season and over $70 Million by 2008. Money is still a problem for them but they aren't giving away their best hitter who is only due 4-5 million next season for our trash. They drew 2.5 Million in attendence last season.

Because it means that they are going to actually try to compete. And in order to do so, they absolutely have to have Bonds back.

the fact that the Giants have sign Rich Aurilla to a 3 yr deal, and are interested in signing David Weathers as set up. Those two moves/potential moves tell me that the Giants (or should I say Sabean) have no intention of trying to rebuild RIGHT NOW which says to me, they're prolly going to bring Bonds. I don't think they necessarily wanted to do that at the start FA, but losing out on guys like Pierre/GMJ/Leecan really change a teams perception. So I expect Bonds to be back in SF for 2 yrs.
