Rotoworld indicates the Rockies are talking trade with the Pirates. Maybe Hendry can swing a deal moving Jacque Jones + Minor leagurs for Hawpe/Jennings. His .898 OPS would look good in right field. Kill two birds with one stone.

Hawpe is the guy who hit the line drive off of Prior's arm. He also was Ryan Theriot's teammate at LSU, in which he hit 2 HR off of Prior in the 2000 CWS. That was sweet.

Why not just let Murton play full time?...he can easily put up Hawpes' 2006 numbers.

Murton doesn't have Hawpe's power. His career SLG in the minors is over 100 pts higher than Murton's.

IMO, Brad Hawpe is a much better candidate for #5 hitter than Jones. I can't imagine any team that would rather have Jacque Jones over Brad Hawpe. He is a doubles machine, and is going to be a SOLID hitter (already is).

Might the Pirates rather have Jones than Hawpe? Maybe?

Pirates get Jones.

Rockies get Duke

Cubs get Hawpe.

everyone be very quiet, we wouldnt want to wake Vance and interrupt the wonderful dream he is having.

Interesting home/road splits for Hawpe.

Home: .282/.369/.454/.822

Road: .303/.395/.571/.966

Doubles were nearly identical, but he hit 16 HRs on the road compared to just 6 at Coors.

wasn't it bizarro coors last year for the whole league?

They're talking about trading Hawpe? I'd be all over that, but we already paid an exorbitant amount of money for Soriano to play worse than Hawpe.

You think Hawpe's a better player than Soriano?

Yes.

Hawpe's good. I don't really think he's better than Soriano. They're both pretty good and bring different things to the table. I don't really see why Soriano would necessarily block the cubs from getting Hawpe, unless you were kind of trying to voice some displeasure with the Soriano signing.

I'm displeased with the Soriano signing, and practically speaking I don't think Hendry would go out and get a RF after signing Soriano to play RF. He's too much a "player's guy" and would view that as undercutting his word to Soriano that he would play RF, and probably thinks it a smack in the face to Alfonso that he would be the one changing positions.

Wow, I mean Hawpe is a very nice player but I personally dont think he is on Soriano's level. I think it is quite obvious that you dont really like the signing of Soriano, but dont let that cloud your judgment. If you are going the route of production vs. price, then I can see your point, otherwise I would have to disagree. But I would love to hear why you came to that conclusion.

Hawpe in 2006: .293/.383/.515/.898

Soriano in 2006: .277/.351/.560/.911

Soriano has only put up Hawpe's OPS once in his career. And Hawpe is 3.5 years younger with just two full major league seasons under his belt.

I thought the company line was that the positions weren't really set yet. The cubs know that they need another bat or two, so they're probably gonna see who they can get and then go from there.

Hawpe is really good though, so I don't take it as a knock against Soriano.
