Thought I'd toss this out there since it's a Felix Pie-related thread:

Sun-Sentinel[/url]"]Meanwhile, Cubs GM Jim Hendry says the team is not dealing touted outfield prospect Felix Pie, another player on the Marlins' wish list.

Well Jim, if you could land Cabrera, I think you'd change your mind.

I think he better if that opportunity would arise.

Other than Cabrera or Willis, who is Jim looking for off the Marlins?

Even though I don't think Pie is 100 % ready to play in the majors I would love to have him in center. With murton in left and Soriano in right we need a defensive anchor and that is pie. Yeah his k/bb ratio is not the best but he is advanced beyond his years when it comes to defense. I think we'd have a nice little outfield. I wouldn't expect him to hit much more than .250 with 10+ homeruns though.

If we can get lugo for short and spin jones/izturis for westbrook or another interesting starter. I'm on board. Plus with the way this off season is going it will be nice to have another guy making the league minimum. And, in general I'm always opposed to a team with out a rookie. More often than not they bring energy and enthusiasm into the clubhouse. Then again, I'm also opposed to a team full of rookies. The 06 marlins being the exception.

If we're thinking Pie for center this year, why not try and send Jacque home and ask SD about Peavy?

I'm not too sure that the Padres would trade Peavy even if the deal was jones, Marshall, and Gallagher. They have a couple of good pitchers in their system but they are probably a year a way. It would make sense, they need a left fielder and someone to go with Adrian Gonzalez, Mike Cameron, and Giles. Plus they could use a couple pitcher who are close, if not there but there are other teams out there that could offer more than us.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Gallagher is "untouchable"...

For a guy like Peavy, nobody is untouchable.

Aren't there some serious concerns about Peavy's health?

I would be shocked if the Cubs dealt Gallagher. I would also be pretty disappointed because, I am really looking forward to going to Iowa and seeing him pitch next year.

I know that Gallagher is "untouchable" but that is probably the type of guy that it would take to get peavy. But in my oppinion, Veal is the cubs top pitching prospect, not Gallagher.

Anyways, you'd be getting back a proven talent vs a ?. Up until last year Gallagher was considered by most scounts to have little upside. Things change quickly with prospects. Not that I'd like to get rid of him but if you have a better chance of getting to the playoffs and the world series in the next couple years without him than so be it.

I get the feeling alot of people on this board would rather see the cubs field a team of homegrown talent than win the world series.

Yes, but this was the philosphy in the Clement/Willis deal as well. Not always the best move because that proven talent can end up washed out in no time while the young kid hits his stride and becomes an ace. Especially when we're talking pitchers.

So the real question is, is Peavy a Clement or is he a Clemens? :)

And is Gallagher a Angel Guzman, or is he a Dontrelle Willis, or something in between?

That's why they pay Hendry the big bucks.

No this is just my opinion that Gallagher is going no where... He has done nothing but impress this organization with everything that he has done. Had some moments in Low-A were he was upset about folks being promoted with the stats he was putting up... Gets called up end of year and throws a good game... This year starts in High A putting up the same type # and gets moved up to AA mid-season and being 20yrs old and youngest player in AA for about 10 days. Granted had some control issues but still put up good # for his season in AA. This kid knows how to pitch and isn't afraid of going after anybody and has made hitters look foolish with his "hook". I think whats most impressive is that when you read what "Baseball America" and others had to say about him, its pretty much his body is done growing and his velocity is High 80's/ Low 90's, projects as a #3. Look at what happened this year comes right out of the gate throwing Low to Mid 90's and his Body(core) has gotten bigger. All of a sudden scouts are fumbling over themselves about their assessments. Look I will be the 1st one to tell you that Sean uses all these articles for motivation and he is at the gym busting his hump to prove these folks wrong. My opinion is that if Sean continues and has a good ST there is no reason why not AAA. I would also like to say that the Organization does have young pitching talent and hopefully they will give these players their chance......

Peavy is an ace. Gallagher could reach that status, but its unlikely, and the Cubs are in total win now mode.

If the Cubs could buy low on Peavy, it would definitely behoove them to do so.

FWIW, I don't think Peavy is going in a deal for prospects.

Other than Pie and Hill, I don't think the Cubs have any untouchables. I wouldn't put Pie in that group.

I'm sure there are many players they would prefer not to move and Gallagher is definitely in that group, along with Veal.
