Whos better:

2004 Neifi vs 2004 Bonds

discuss

Using stats or conventional wisdom?

Well clearly Neifi since if you asked every GM they would certainly take 162 games of Neifi over the 120 or so games you would get with Bonds.

'strue. I called 'em all, and they all said so.

You didn't call me.

My name is Wayne Krivsky.

P.S. Please call me...I'm lonely.

That's right, I called every GM except you - but you're used to that sort of thing, aren't you?

You have no idea.

I have to give out 3/15 deals to the girls downtown just to get any action at all...5/35 for the ones with teeth.

Thought you could bury them at the back end of the bullpen, huh?

Hmmmm....Note to Jim Hendry: tell Krivsky that Eyre has teeth (make sure to wink and nod when you do so). It should up his value significantly.

C'mon JD... lets sign the big 3 FA hitters

Okay. So my name, it so happens, is J.D. And just now, very late at night, when you and I are two of the last people on this board, and you started with "C'mon JD...", I really had to concentrate to convince myself that you weren't stalking me and messing with my head.

Man does my butt look big. I'm really unphotogenic - I don't look like that at all in person, I swear.

Gonna have to break up the love fest in here.

ETA: I noticed that was post 7000 for myself and it was just as pointless as I wanted it to be.

Why break it up when you can join in? Actually, feel free to supplant me, as I am going to bed.

Also, I'm only some 6300 posts behind you, so watch out.

All right, since the kids have apparently gone to sleep it off, let's get back to Soriano...

Dayn Perry"]First and foremost, there's only one way to characterize this addition — helpful in the near term, idiotic in the long term.

That's pretty direct, and I must say that is how I initially feel about it. (Barring any huge surprises in the structure of the contract, of course. It seems there is some speculation that the last 2-3 years may be option years, but unless those are straight player options then this should not be characterized as an 8-year, $136 million deal.)

Dayn Perry"]As ever, the team's fate will depend upon the health of the rotation, but they'd do well to loosen the purse strings a bit more and sign a J.D. Drew...

This Dayn Perry fellow is making a lot of sense...

Dayn Perry"]...or, at the very least, ink a Luis Gonzalez, a David Dellucci or a Frank Catalanott — someone to platoon with Murton.

Crap, he lost me.

Good morning, kids.

I see this thread is still steamrolling the forums.

I just got done taking a history trimester final and i had to get my fix via blackberry.

It's like waking up from one of those crazy binge drinking nights and getting a call from your best friend.

"I did what last night?!"

This thread is ridiculous.

That Dayn Perry article sums up my feelings on this pretty well. I'm really anxious to see the actual terms of the deal. I'm still (foolishly) hoping that the last few years are team options.

On one hand, I'm excited to see a big splash, especially this early in the off-season. It's a change of pace for Hendry. On the other hand, I'm certainly worried about the long-term (and short-term) effects of this contract. I've always said that I'm fine with Hendry over-paying for impact type players (vs. the Rusch's and Neifi's of the world). Be careful what you ask for, I guess.

I'm not sure if a couple of years from now this contract looks better then it does now. I also think he's going to age well.

I woke up from a drunken stupor this morning and I had to check the websites just to make sure it really happened yesterday. Wayyyy too many beers and shots before, during, after, and everything in between during the Bears game. Edited by C.C.

The only way this is bad is if his contract prevents us from signing other players. I have been "overpaying" for tickets and beer for the past 20 years, and those prices sure as heck aren't going down. So they gave a few extra years. If Fonzie is part of a WS team 1 out of 8 years, they can give him triple this amount, who cares? If not, then signing him for free would have been a bad deal.

Now, onto JD Drew and 2 pitchers. Can we get all 3 of them in for the $37 million or so we have left to spend?
