I think that trade last year of Kearns and Lopez really took the life out of them offensively. Griffey is never healthy enough not to have added depth and Clayton was terrible and was brought in to be the defensive improvement for Lopez.

Kearns and Lopez to that point had 668ABs 108R 181H 35DB 2TR 25HR 80RBIs 82BB 151K 30SBs. Their offense struggled to score runs after all the trades went thru.

Cincy had a very good chance of getting more than 83 wins had they not went after relievers like they did.

I wonder how much they'd value Eyre, Dempster, and Howry?
man, at the pace hes going for these bullpen arms that Krivsky would probably give up Dunn for them..

Full details in now:

Mike Stanton will earn $5.5 million over the next two years under the terms of his deal with the Reds.

Stanton gets salaries of $2 million next year and $3 million in 2008. There's a $2.5 million club option for 2009 that can be bought out for $500,000. If he appears in 140 games over the next two seasons, the option-year salary vests at $2.75 million.

Holy cripes they have a lot of bullpen guys. They must want Eyre or Dempster. How about both of them for Arroyo, then the Reds can use their plethora of relievers in every inning of the game.

This brought up a random thought. What if a team did not have a starting rotation? Could you benefit from using 12(maybe 13 in the AL) pitchers to handle each game?

Maybe, but since most relievers are second rate pitchers anyway, it's going to be a bunch of mediocre pitching. And you would routinely be in situations where nobody has more than 1 day's rest.

It wouldn't have to be all relievers.

You aren't going to get many very good pitchers to agree to be used that way, since it would hold back their earnings ability.

You'd need a good farm system, which brings up the point, do you implement this at your minor league affiliates too? I dunno, the thought crossed my mind and it piqued my curiosity.
