Moises Alou-OF- Giants Nov. 18 - 10:36 am et

A close friend of Moises Alou told a Santo Domingo newspaper that the outfielder and the Mets are close to a one-year, $8 million contract.

As long as that close friend isn't Jose Lima, maybe there's something to this. The Mets and Indians have been viewed as the top suitors for the 40-year-old Alou.

one question,

did anyone want to see him come back?

I'm looking for the most emphatic way to type, "NO!"

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal says the Mets and Moises Alou are discussing a two-year contract.

A Dominican newspaper reported that the two sides were close to a one-year, $8 million contract. A two-year deal would be a weaker move for the Mets, but Alou's impact bat would look nice in the middle of their lineup for the 120-130 games he's able to play each season. Rosenthal adds that the Indians believed they were close to signing Alou to a two-year deal until the Frank Thomas signing apparently made Alou ask for more money.

I never wanted him to leave.

I agree with you. But we had the great "Creature" who deserved playing time, LOL!!!!

I have no clue why an NL team would spend $8M on this guy. He's almost certain to miss at least 50 games and his defense is awful.

Missing games? Who are we talking about, Alou or Drew?

In my mind, Alou epitomized the bad attitude we saw from Baker's teams. Selfish playing, blaming everyone else, and taking aggression out on the media. The Cubs don't need the back in the form of a 40 year old glorified DH.

Would you like Drew if he stopped walking?

I'd like Drew with he played more games. He's as soft as Charmin. Here's a guy who just doesn't fully use his talent.

Too true. I'm tired of players being so human. A real major leaguer would shrug off things like broken hands.

Well, if Drew would just pee on his hands once in a while...oh, never mind.

Freaking Alou. It was his incredible overreaction to Bartman that set the tone of the club and doomed us in '03. I'll go to my grave believing that.

If he just walks away instead of throwing a fit, we're talking about the Cubs getting back to the World Series right now.

In 2006 Drew appeared in 146 games and had 594 plate appearances. Alou doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of matching that unless he's DHing, and even then I wouldn't bet on it.

I still maintain that Dusty's complete and total lack of accountability led to that. It was NEVER this team's fault when something went wrong! It was always something else, be it the fans, the announcers, or the grass.
