negrons winter numbers are awesome but is he destined to be a 4th outfield type or could he actually be a starter? seems alot like pagan, good speed, good defense, power in spurts ( probably more than pagan)

Has anyone actually seen Negron and Pagan at the same place at the same time? :chin:

Is Negron still in the Cubs organization? I thought I read he was released or signed elsewhere as a FA. Maybe I was thinking of someone else...

He was taken off the 40-man roster and designated for assignment late last month. Haven't seen anything about him signing elsewhere.

This might come as a shock to most of you, but as of now, Miguel Negrón leads the Puerto Rico Winter League in batting average and slugging. He's also tied for second in runs (16, first place: 21) and tied for second in stolen bases (6, first place: 11). Geovany Soto is tied for second in doubles (7, first place: 9) and Negrón is in third place (6).

Any chance that Miguel is finally realizing his potential and can give Felix a run for his money next year?

Here's his monthly breakdown from last year (with the Jaxx only):

May (27 ABs) - .185/.290/.333/.624

June (66 ABs) - .424/.459/.621/1.081

July (75 ABs) - .253/.325/.333/.659

August (89 ABs) - .247/.287/.315/.602

That's a post-AS break line of .225/.299/.275/.574.

And his line with New Hampshire last year (130 ABs): .215/.266/.300/.566

In other words, no. He has a career .671 OPS and has never even come close to an .800 OPS once. He may "only" be 24 right now, but he's already spent 7 years in the minors and should have to repeat AA once again.

Looks like you're right. Now it comes out that Miguel signed a minor league contract witht he Cardinals and has an NRI to spring training.
