I just don't see Bernard holding off Bradley on the depth chart. He still has a bright future though. 2 years from now Bradley and Berrain will be our starting wideouts.

And Gage will be cut.

Berrian flat out dropped the biggest opportunity he had all day :-\

Ridiculous holding call also negated a big pass play, i dont remember if that was Berrian or Moose though.

It was BB.

Berrian is playing with bruised ribs. That pass was high, and completely exposed him to a shot to those ribs. I'm sure that was on his mind when that pass was thrown. Berrian doesn't usually drop passes. I'm willing to give him a few weeks here to get himself feeling right. I think the original report was 4 weeks recovery. Lets see what he does in the Minnesota and StL games.

Joe Buck was an embarrassment to football yesterday. That was the most ridiculous anti-Chicago job of broadcasting I've ever seen. He ought to be ashamed.

Please don't let that guy announce another Chicago game. He isn't wanted.

Stop the presses. Grossman beats the blitz for the game-ending TD pass to Mark Bradley. I find it interesting that nobody is noting this little factoid.

I can't believe how much the national media is dissing Grossman for that game.

I'm still confused about the offensive game plan this game. It's pretty obvious that if the game plan was more open, Grossman potentially could have more then doubled his numbers. There are a few reasons why the game plan was so conservative.

1) Lovie looked over the Jets win over the Pats, and saw how the defense was able to fool the great Tom Brady into having a good game, so Lovie decided that the best chance to win was to pull in the reigns on Grossman and control the ball and the clock.

2) People were saying the Bears were not a running team anymore, and teams were putting too much of their defense into stopping the pass. You've heard of establishing the run? Well Lovie decided to establish the run for the rest of the season by proving that the Bears could and will run when necessary. This will force D's to focus more on the run, and leave the passing game more wide open, allowing Grossman to pick apart secondaries as he was before all these blitzes and confusing passing schemes.

3) Long shot: Lovie saw something in Grossman during the Giants game and decided to stop the gunslinger game plan altogether and consulted with John Shoop to redevelop a modified Kyle Orton game plan for the rest of the season.

Either way, the game was kinda eerie because it just wasn't what I expected. I expected Grossman to go on a long scoring run with lots of passes at some point, and it never happened. I'll take the win though, thats for sure...and lets see how Grossman comes out against NE.

I'm confused by this as well. Everyone had been saying he had to avoid a "blowup game" and "get out of the defense's way." Now he does that and he's "doing his best Kyle Orton impression." He had a low 80's QB rating. Not great, but not bad either.

A combo of 1 & 2. The Jets are a heavy-blitz team. The way to beat blitzes is to run the ball, and get the ball outside to receivers matched 1 on 1 with a CB. And that's what they did.

Kudos to Cris Collinsworth. He called yesterday Grossman's best game of the year, because he proved he could manage the game when being blitzed and not turn it over.

I just find it interesting that the Bears prove the pundits wrong about something each week, yet even after being proved wrong they just come up with something else to complain about. Meanwhile, all these other clubs with deficiencies are just great football clubs who will supposedly romp the Bears.

It's always going to be something with these people. They just hate Chicago and are desperate for us to fail.

What a wonder is that if any team can blitz heavy and hold the Bears to 10 points, isn't that going to lead to a lot of losses? I mean the D can't shut out the opposition every week, and even this week, the Jets could have easily put up 10 or more points on the D.

Obviously the Bears spent the majority of the 4th running out the clock and potentially could have had more points, but its something to consider. If the Jets had scored on that drive instead of Urlacher getting an INT, would Grossman have started to sling it

They did what they had to do to win this game, without showing anything to the Patriots. This had classic letdown game potential, but the Bears methodically beat a good team on the road. If anything, this game showed teams that you can't go into the Bears game thinking, "stop Grossman, and we win". Everybody talked about beating the Bears by forcing Rex into mistakes. But they just showed it's not that simple. This defense made Brady look silly the week before.

I think this was a play it close to the vest type of game. They held almost everything back, and did the bare minimum to win. If I'm a Bears opponent in the coming weeks, I'm thinking long and hard about how I'm going to beat them, because there is no simple plan.

Rex and Turner said they had a very simple game plan for this game. It does look like they played it close to the vest.

That's a very good analysis. I think you really nailed it.

I wonder what would have happened if they got behind.

Yes good analysis Goony

Yes, it is a good analysis. And you touched on it too: what would have happened if we got behind? Because everyone's talking about how Grossman slings it deep if he gets behind, and Grossman can't handle pressure, and Grossman's an interception machine.

That may be true, but people are forgetting Turner. He's calling plays as well. When the Bears get behind, it's also Turner who has seemed to panic, almost as much as Grossman, abandoning the run, calling alot of deep route passes, etc.

Fortunately, there's no gameplan that says, "Get the Bears behind and you'll win." Well.....duh. Nobody goes into a game saying "I think we'll give them the first 10 points."

On my way out of the stadium several Jets fans took the time to give me their opinion on the play of the Bears and how bad they are. Its funny, we were only 162 hours removed from me having that same experience the weekend before.

People keep talking about how next week's game is going to be the game that the Bears really show us who they really are. They'll lose two out of three when they play those games in the Meadowlands and NE went the conventional wisdom.

Well...the most they can now lose is one out of those games. Rex, after a dismal first half in the muck last Sunday responded with 4td's and 0 int's/fumbles over the next game and a half. The defense allowed 20 points against one great, and one good offense. The lines were in control and Robbie Gould remained perfect.

Unless my MA relatives manage to snag me some tickets, I don't care all that much if the Bears win Sunday. The game now is staying healthy and not losing focus on the ultimate prize, the Colts, Pats or Bolts in February.

Was it your impression that there were a lot less Bears fans at this game than the Giants game?

I thought there were more in my area, but it sure didn't sound like there were as many as last week. Quiet stadium.

The notoriously rowdy Jets fans were the quietest NFL audience I had ever been to at a game. And what the heck were those foam white things supposed to be?

stupid sticks

The messed up opening kickoff situation, and the very slow start to the game, killed the crowd. I've been to many Jets games, and it's usually more exciting. But most crowds are probably dead when getting shut out.

Posted

Since Giants' crowds are the tamest NFL crowds I had ever seen until yesterday; I had just assumed that NY'ers were just depressed to have to be in Jersey.

The only time the crowd sounded loud were the sack of Rex and the overturned fumble. Gotta love how they kept showing a "conclusive" replay on the jumbo tron that didn't show where Jones' knees were when the ball came loose.

I will say this for the Jets and their fans, yesterday was the first time I wore my Bears' stuff and didn't have crap thrown at me all game. Of course, the next section had someone getting bottles thrown at them, but what the heck.

a friend and i drove up from dc for yesterday's game. i actually found the jets fans, in general, to be pleasant. after the game, the two most common things i heard from them were:

(1) "why isn't anyone wearing a grossman jersey? it's because rex sucks."

(2) "oh yeah .. well, you lost to miami."

not very convincing, to say the least.

on another note, i'm flying up to chicago for the minny game in 2 weeks .. could be the division clincher, and i can't wait!

Agreed, as well as the team that always calls Bears- Packers games...they are just outright Packer fans. It annoys the piss out of me.

I wish Ron Turner would just get his head out of his ass. He clearly has the stuff of a good Offensive Coordinator, but fails to show up every week. He's done a good job turning a 32nd offense into something that isn't complete crap, and he did what he had to do with Kyle Orton last year.

I really would like to see him play to Grossman's strengths, and get less streaky with the runs and passes. Mix them up. There are 2 different ways to get to a 50-50 run/pass ratio. One is to run run run run run, pass pass pass pass pass pass. The other way is to use them both effectively.
