Talk about over-paid.

The Astros will hold a press conference Friday to announce a one-year contract agreement with second baseman Craig Biggio slightly more than $5 million, according to people close to the negotiations.

Biggio, who will turn 41 next month, will return for his 20th season with the Astros next year, needing just 70 hits to become the first player in team history and 27th all-time to reach the 3,000-hit total.

Eh the biggio signing is more of an off the field than on the field move. im sure him staying will positively effect revenue to make up his true value, which at this point is probably 2-3 mil. Hes hit very well at Enron the last few years. By very well I mean finding the crawford boxes with regularity. I expect his role to be dimished even further this season.

I'd bet that this is part of a deal where Biggio retires after this season. This is good for PR- not having to release a HOFer. For what he actually will produce he is overpaid. However, in the Pantheon of overpaid players there are many many players that earned more for doing less.

The Astros are strictly paying Biggio this money so that he can get hit number 3,000 in an Astros uni. Biggio, IMO, will retire after the season.

If this is INDEED his last yr, Joe Morgan will have another 2B that is in his stratosphere in HOF.

Biggio was there whether he played next your or not, or if he had played this year either.

Having Biggio get his 3000th somewhere else was like Santo playing a season with the White Sox before retiring. Biggio is a class act, played hard, and deserved a little over payment for what he did for them.

We need a little more loyalty in the game like that which was displayed right here with the Astros.

Maybe he can afford a new batting helmet now.

I love the pine tar helmets!!!

Ugh, you can't be serious. It looks someone used the helmet as a receptacle for their copehagen spittle. Makes me want to throw up every time I see it.

The league needs to mandate better uniform standards. Christ, it's terrible to look at.
