Of all the near-misses today, the only team that actually loses is the one ND didn't necessarily need help to pass (pending Texas I suppose). Pretty typical of the sports weekend.

 

And BSU beats Miami OH 20-17 despite being outgained by 130 yards to go to 3-6 (3-3 MAC).

UCLA up 15-14 with a minute left in the half. Nice touchdown pass to Junior Taylor on the skinny post for about 40 yards.

 

But then they go for 2 and fail. In the first half, going for 2...why?

 

Where was being more aggressive last week at Notre Dame? This coaching staff doesn't get it. Don't be aggressive just to be aggressive and because you were called out for being conservative by the media.

Rodney Van has all the talent in the world and cannot play corner for the life of him. What a waste of athletic talent. I hope Verner is the #2 corner and Van goes to nickel in the second half. What garbage.

 

UCLA up 15-14 at halftime, only because WSU has missed 2 FGs.

Since last week:

 

-Flyers start out with the worst record in the NHL and fire their GM and coach

-Eagles lose on 62 yard field goal

-Went 1-4 in fantasy football last week

-Recorded only my second negative score in pro football picks pool last weekend (in 4+ years and 70 weeks of picks)

-Cardinals win the world series

-En route to recording only my second negative score in college football picks pool today (in 4+ years and 50 weeks of picks)

-Holy Cross, a spread offense team, plays Lehigh, a run-dominated team for first place in the Patriot League - and weather ends up being very windy and rainy. Lehigh runs the entire game and wins 28-14.

-Flyers losing tonight 5-1 to the Penguins

 

Beat that.

South Carolina had terrible luck in the first half - two tipped passes intercepted by Tennessee, one run back for a TD, while the other Tennessee TD was scored on a tipped pass that fell into the arms of a receiver in the back of the end zone. Still, the Gamecocks played well in the 2nd quarter and it's 14-10 at the half. Good game so far... looking forward to the 2nd half.

I think Lou Holtz speaks more poorly than any commentator I've ever seen on TV. He sounds like he has a speech impediment. Go home Lou, get in your rocking chair, change your diaper, whatever... just get off my television.

one of the few bright lights in an otherwise bleak sports world is looking forward to F$U playing in something like the Emerald or MPC Computers Bowl

 

Will they make a bowl if they go 6-6? The ACC can't have that many bowl tie-ins.

Rodney Van has been burned for 3 touchdowns (everyone else on UCLA's defense has been great) on top of being burned a few times on Notre Dame's last drive last week, and yet he's still the #2 corner. Ugh!

 

UCLA now down 20-15 as WSU fails to get the 2-pt conversion with 4:25 in the third quarter.

they have 8 bowl tie-ins... they'll be in a bowl

 

South Carolina muffs a punt and it's recovered by UT, but the Vols had illegal formation.

 

 

Ugh... then UT's punter lands a kick at the two and somehow it takes a right turn and rolls halfway across the field, out at the one.

I hate Karl Dorrell more than Dick Jauron, Dusty Baker and Don Baylor combined in their heyday.

 

I can't imagine somebody being that much worse than Dusty Baker. It just isn't possible.
