82-35 is the final. No starter played the final 12 minutes, it was walk-ons and the last big men on the bench for the final 4 minutes. All the walk-ons scored except Matt Lee, I believe.

Up next, USC (1 game back in the Pac-10) at Pauley on Wednesday.

Boy, how bad is Arizona State then? They lost at home to Oregon St.

I think ASU is better than OSU, mainly because they have a player that would probably start on every other Pac-10 team (except Washington and Stanford) in Jeff Pendergraph.

It can get pretty easy to shut down one player when he's the only good guy on the team - especially if he's a low-post player.

I hate you Mizzou basketball.

No kidding. Can't expect to win many games when the other team is getting 2, 3, sometimes 4 chances at making a basket because of offensive boards, and we're going 1 and done because we can't freaking rebound.

Of course, nothing was worse than those refs. Absolutely terrible. Probably the worst officiated game I've seen in person.

Tom O'Neill is a joke. If he, Hightower, and Welmer never officiate another game again it will be too soon.

And in review for Mizzou: blowout Arkansas, dominate Texas Tech, take Kansas to the wire in Allen, yet... lose to Iowa State at home, lose to Nebraska at home, and get swept by Kansas State. DeMarre Carroll's rebounding self can't be eligible soon enough.

One positive thing I will say about this game is that I'm really impressed with how Butterfield has progressed as a basketball player as the year has gone on. He's not going to put up huge numbers, but he seems to have found a midrange jump shot (even though he thinks he's a 3 point shooter), and he's probably the only player on the team who will crash the boards (Kalen Grimes I'm looking at you.)

The most disturbing thing happened today. I found myself rooting for Iowa, something I have never done before. To put it in perspective, it would be like J.R. rooting for the White Sox.

I know it's kind of petty, but the Eric Gordon/Sampson thing has instilled in me a new hatred for Indiana that I didn't fully recognize until today.

Screw you, Kelvin Sampson. I feel dirty for rooting for Iowa.

I was at the Marquette/Providence game yesterday. Besides it just being an exciting game and MU now on a seven game conference win streak, they retired Dwayne Wade's jersey at halftime. I had never been to a jersey retirement ceremony before. It was really neat. Wade started sobbing when he gave Tom Crean a hug. Really cool stuff.

Come on it's OK to root for Iowa. It's not like you were rooting for Tennessee.

Alford is doing a hell of a job with your team this year.

Probably the best job he's ever done. Too bad nobody around here is noticing.

Alford doesn't get noticed unless he's allowing accused sex offenders play on his team (and this is a rare year he isn't)

Yeah a lot of my friends still live in Iowa City and they claim that attendance and interest is really bad. It is a shame really, he should be in consideration for coach of the big 10. Seriously with what he has coming back they should have been terrible, but they are actually very good now. It just took a while to get the pieces to fit together.

Nothing about that post is remotely close to the truth.

Alford's coaching career at Iowa has faced some controversy, much of it due to the behavior and treatment of former Hawkeye basketball player Pierre Pierce. In 2002, Pierce was charged with felony sexual abuse in an incident involving a female student athlete. At that time, Alford publicly supported Pierce, who ultimately pled guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge, served probation, and sat out the 2002-2003 basketball season. Many fans wanted Pierce removed from the team, but Alford allowed Pierce to redshirt and rejoin the team the following season.

In January of 2005, Pierce was involved in an incident with his former girlfriend at her townhouse in West Des Moines, Iowa. According to police reports, Pierce threatened to harm the woman while displaying a kitchen knife, forcibly removed her clothing, and made unwanted sexual advances.

Following confirmation by the police that Pierce was a subject of a criminal investigation, coach Steve Alford dismissed Pierce from the basketball team. Alford stated that "...(Pierce) betrayed the trust we placed in him when he was given a second chance two years ago." At the time, Pierce was leading the team with 17.8 points per game, and he had a total of 1,072 career points. [1]

There's much, much more to the story than wikipedia is providing. Alford's got his shortcomings as a coach, but he's gotten an extremely bad rap for that incident.

You know I used to think the same thing until I had the chance to talk to one of Steve's assistants in person. He claimed Steve was forced by the University to give the guy a second chance and thus he was really steamed when it happened again.

Hey illiniguy, Lake Oswego HS beat Santa Ana Materi Dei HS yesterday. Kevin Love had 36 points, 16 boards, 4 blocks and did all that with a 102-degree fever. :) The thing that stunned me was his passing (which you always hear about) - he knew where and when to pass it as the double and triple teams came.

Mater Dei's Wear twins (class of 09, definitely on UCLA's radar) didn't look that great and Taylor King (Duke) had a bad shooting night but I've seen him before and Coach K is getting a good one.

I really think out of K's class though King is the weak link. Singler and Nolan Smith are great gets. Love is good, I saw him play against Gordon and Rose this summer and was real impressed with his ability to outlet the ball then beat it downcourt. He was a hell of a get for UCLA. Kent has to be sick to let that kind of talent leave the state this year. What does he think he is Bruce Weber missing on all the instate kids? :P

Singler and Love both said they didn't consider Oregon because of Kent (but Ernie's done a heck of a job with the Ducks this season, despite the sweep in LA).

I agree that Singler and Smith are way ahead of King and King might become irrevelant with guys like Singler ahead of him.
