I read this morning that Hendry asked permission to interview him and was turned down.

Where did you read it? And what is the connection there that we think we can steal Bochy away?

If you're referring to a Sun-Times article, that was in 2003 that he was turned down.

I haven't heard yet whether he was or wasn't granted permission this time, but he did request, and he very well might get it.

I just saw something from september 29th on SI.com, but it was just a blurb and it didn't say much about them asking permission, just that they might be interested. I would assume that something new came out today in regards to Bochy that ESPNews isn't 2 weeks slow getting to their info. I'll keep looking

All the links I am finding seem to be speculative based off the fact that Hendry tried to contact him in 2003 and was denied. So he may go at him again because he has been a favorite of Hendry's for years.

Is Bochy any good? Would we want him?

Does it matter? Unless Hendry brings in some more talent this club will be pathetic again next year.

There is another thread in Transactions that discusses Bochy. Of the potential candidates for the job, I like him best.

I can do without arcane rules about facial har, bunting early in the ball game, and the value of "leadership".

I can also do without four-year old temper tantrums.

But in reality, I don't really care if the Cubs don't have the players.

Sorry guys, I don't remember where I saw it. It might have been a dated article that I read; though I don't really read any old articles or anything like that. I don't know, sorry for the confusion.

I would be happy with Bochy - depending on the player cost of course. I think Bochy would take the job.

Bochy would probably be my favorite for the job.

I don't care who it is---well figuratively speaking of course---anybody that can block Lou Piniella from being the next Cub manager would be fine with ME.

I'm not an insider and don't have access to the full article, but Keith Law didn't think much of Bochy in the playoffs.

Keith Law / ESPN Insider[/url]"]If I were the Padres' GM, I might not even let manager Bruce Bochy on the plane home, because you'll rarely see as bad an in-game managerial job as the performance we just saw. Bochy went into this NLDS with the superior team and home-field advantage and, with the help of some ineptitude from a few of his hitters, managed the Padres out of the playoffs.

I read the whole thing at GRB, and it seemed a bit nit-picky. Sure Bochy probably made some bad decisions, but the conclusion that Bochy was almost as much at fault for losing the series as the pitiful Padre offense I can't agree with.

Kevin Towers, Padres GM, was just interviewed on San Diego sports radio and said that they had not been contacted by the Cubs or anyone else yet about Bochy.

He said they were planning to have organizational meetings in the near future and would discuss extending Bochy's contract among other things.

You can listen to the Bochy part of the interview here. It's the " sportsradio_kevin_towers_101006.mp3" file and is a little over 3.5 minutes.

The full interview on Everything Padres is also there as Sportsradio_Kevin_Towers_full_interview and is about 20 minutes. Includes the Bochy talk, full roster discussion, Giles batting leadoff, what to do with Matt Bush, etc etc.

Heh, Channel 2 or 7 News(not sure which), just reported the Cubs will interview Bochy.

They may have talked to someone other than Towers (Sandy Alderson is the President) -- he said in the interview that was possible and, though they talk everyday, the phone calls may have crossed.

Sounds like permission has been granted!
