I think Quade is an excellent choice for 3rd base coach and is a thread of familiarity for the younger players.

How does he pronounce his name? If it's pronounced the way the blonde on CSN Sportsnite said it last night, I don't think I could handle having him on the staff next year.

If its not Quade like Quaid as in Randy and Dennis then I agree.

I'll be thinking of Total Recall the whole time.

DJaxxFan can probably give some insight as to his managerial style in AA.

He is a good Manager. He is a definitely a player's manager in that all of the guys on the team love playing for him. However, Pat definitely gets the most out of his players. He is very hands on oriented and makes sure that he is a part of everything in regards to the team. I have seen him work with fielding, hitting and pitching exercises with the players. He's also a smart manager and isn't afraid of being agressive.

Something I really like about Pat is how loose he is with his approach to the game. I've been on the field in pregame with Pat before a big game and have Pat talk with me about everything but the game. One night the scouts were supposed to have a sleepover after the game and he looked up at a dark sky and expressed concern that the kids might not be able to have their sleepover.

I guess so, I really had to look closely at the image results to tell. He's really light complected for an African-American.

Its hard for me to tell too, but thats because I don't see color. Everyone is American to me. I only know I'm white because I can catch a cab and belong to an all white country club.

Who's your NFL team then? It can't be the Bears.

Updated chicagosports.com article.

Quade has a good shot of joining the Cubs' staff in 2007 as third-base coach, in which case Buddy Bailey, the team's minor league catching and baserunning coordinator, would take over at Iowa.

With only one year of managerial experience at the Double-A level, Listach would be a long shot to make the leap to a major-league managerial job.

But the Cubs want to reward Listach for the job he did at West Tenn. And by interviewing him, the Cubs would fulfill a directive from Major League Baseball that teams include minority candidates in the hiring process.

Promoting within. When's the last time the Cubs did that ? It makes sense and I think Listach has a good chance to be added as the 1st base coach next season.

They promoted Speier from within to the staff. They promoted Hendry to GM from personel guy. They just promoted McDonough. And they've promoted lots of "interim managers" from within.

Quade is being interviewed tonight.

SEAN KEELER / The Des Moines Register"] Iowa Cubs manager Mike Quade is scheduled to meet with Chicago Cubs officials tonight regarding their managerial opening.

"I'm ready for everything, however this sets up," Quade said by cellphone from Midway airport, just after his plane landed this afternoon. "I'm really excited. People ask me, 'Are you nervous?' No, I'm excited. Hell, if I don't know myself by now, I shouldn't be interviewing for this."

Quade said he's slated to have dinner with Cubs general manager Jim Hendry tonight and will also sit down with Oneri Fleita, the team's director of player development.

Beyond that, Quade noted, he wasn't sure what was on his agenda. He said that he expected to return home to Florida on Wednesday.

The Cubs called him Sunday to set up the interview.

"Since Sunday, I've been thinking long and hard (about the job) and not sleeping a whole lot," Quade said, "(thinking) about how I want to approach this."

I'm pretty sure Speier came over from Arizona after Brenly was let go. It was right after Wavin' Wendell was let go.

I'd prefer Brenly or Bochy to Girardi.

Ditto.

I'm really disheartened how a guy like Girardi, who I think should be down at least 5th or 6th on the list after the 1st picks are found to be unavailable, is being propped up as the savior the Cubs NEED to sign.

TT, you are correct, the B.E.A.R.S. are not my favorite NFL team, I do not like the Bengals, Eagles, Atlanta, Ravens, or Saints. My favorite team is Chicago.

I'm almost to the point of saying "screw it" and wanting them to hire the minor league guys for a year. At least then if it isn't working out we can hopefully get a better choice, and not just settle.

Not to knock Joe, he's a Cub, and I think if given the job he'll do well, but when the best answers are Joe Girardi, Bob Brenly, and Lou Piniella...you were probably asking the wrong question.

I was thinking it was Oakland, but either way he did come from another team as opposed to being promoted.

Wow, Quade really came off pretty cool in that brief tidbit. I like his down to earth style. I remeber this when he was filling in for Spier earlier this season. He seemed to say the right things and be a nice guy about it but not in a cliche way

Having seen many I-Cubs games, and listened to many more on the radio, Quade (I think he pronounces Quad-EE) is a really down to earth guy. I honestly don't think he becomes manager of this team, but I think he has some role with the major league ball club. Listach was in AAA Iowa as a hitting coach before taking over as AA West Tenn's manager. I think this might be a "token" interview for the Cubs and for Listach. If Listach has any thoughts about being a big league manager, it is always good to get that first interview, and why not have it be with an organization you are familiar with. I think Listach is young enough to use this as an idea as to what an interview is like with a big league ball club.

Brenly & Listach are next to be interviewed.

Bruce Miles / The Daily Herald"] Hendry has talked with in-house candidate Mike Quade, the manager of the Cubs’ Class AAA Iowa farm team. He will head to Arizona today and meet with Class AA West Tenn manager Pat Listach and TV analyst Bob Brenly sometime within the next 48 hours.

It’s possible Hendry will expand his search further, with the wild card being San Diego Padres manager Bruce Bochy, whom Hendry regards highly. Hendry reportedly sought permission from the Padres to interview Bochy in 2002 but was turned down. The Cubs eventually hired Dusty Baker, who was let go last Monday.

from what i've seen of him, he's not a good third base coach.

Quade update.

The Des Moines Register"] Iowa Cubs manager Mike Quade told The Des Moines Registertoday that there's a "70-30" chance he won't return to Des Moines next spring.

"I really hope that, whether it's here in Chicago or with ... some of the other situations that are changing around baseball, that I've done enough to get a chance at the major-league level," Quade said from his home in Bradenton, Fla. "Optimistically, I'm really hoping to be in the big leagues next year." ...

The 49-year-old Illinois native spent Tuesday in Chicago interviewing for the vacant Cubs managerial opening. He had dinner and a formal interview with Chicago general manager Jim Hendry Tuesday night.

During their conversation, which lasted about three hours, Quade said he got the impression the club was looking for "a major-league experience guy" to replace Dusty Baker. ...

"If he hired a veteran manager, it would be a little bit presumptuous to say, 'Here's your staff,' " Quade said of the Tribune report. "How this plays out employment wise — major-leagues or Des Moines — remains to be seen. I would love the opportunity — if and when he chooses a manager and it's not me — to be in the mix for a coaching position."

Seems a bit presumptuous on his part don't it?

I don't think so. He seems confident that he'll be with a big league club next year. Maybe it's something Hendry told him in the interview, maybe he's just self-assured. But I didn't think it sounded presumptuous.
