Didn't see this anywhere, so I thought I'd post it. Lock/delete if it's already elsewhere.

CHICAGO -- Joe Girardi, considered a leading candidate for the Chicago Cubs' managing job, interviewed for the position on Monday.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2618837

From the same wire story:

General manager Jim Hendry, who was not available for comment, plans to interview two internal candidates this week: Triple-A manager Mike Quade and Double-A manager Pat Listach.

Sounds to me like a couple of token interviews, but who knows?

Trib has it on their site as well. They had another article where Joe was interviewed by phone and he said some pretty nice things about the Cubs.

Atleast finally something is happening.

Quoted for Truth.

I've been QFT'd!! Thank you!!

Don't cry. Just be glad I'm not QFT'ing you regarding a message about how Hendry should not have signed Baker to a 3 year extension. :D

Any NSBB reviews on Mike Quade and Pat Listach? I dont pay much attention to the farm system.

I've heard good things about Quade, but nothing about Listach.

I remember when Listach won rookie of the year for the Brewers and then proceeded to have an entirely forgettable career. He's been in the organization as a coach for quite a while it seems. While I'm not against looking to guys in the system, the last two to get a chance to manage the Cubs from within the system (at least on an interim basis) were Bruce Kimm and Jim Essian. While these guys were put into sour situations and have been unfairly knocked, nobody was clamoring for them to be back. On the other hand, I'd be tickled if the Cubs could get Rick Kranitz for pitching coach and he coached in the Cub organization for 22 years.

Former Marlins manager Joe Girardi interviewed for the vacant Cubs managerial job on Monday, a spokesperson for the club said.

Girardi met with Cubs general manager Jim Hendry.

"Joe and I spent the better part of the day together," Hendry said. "I thought it went very well."

"I think Joe appreciated the opportunity to come down to Wrigley Field today to spend some time and see people from his playing days," Hendry added.

A little off-topic, but I seriously think the Marlins GM is an idiot for letting Girardi go. He's likely manager of the year, and he took a $15 million ballclub to 78 wins. If he was managing a $90 million club, he could have as much as 468 wins.

Was anyone likely to be on the cubs roster next year on the same 2002 team that Girardi was on?

Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, and Carlos Zambrano were on the '02 Cubs. I hope they're all on the '07 Cubs.

And Augie Ojeda was in the organization ;)

Not sure if it means anything, but ESPNEWS also just said that Girardi is another option for the Yankees, but a #1 option for the Chicago Cubs, who interviewed him today.

I think girardi would be stupid to take the cubs job over the yankees.

I don't know why in the world you would ever think that. :^o

I can understand it, in a way - working for Steinbrenner isn't easy. Like working for Al Davis before the senility - overbearing and intrusive, but basically pretty sharp. Still, I think Joe would take the Yankee job. Here's the rub, though - Joe is basically a Joe Torre protege'. Why would the Yanks fire Torre only to replace him with his star pupil? Piniella makes much more sense for them.

Oh come on. All Georgy wants is a 162-0 record and a World Series, is that too much to ask for?

There was little evil part of me that wanted to see a Marlins, yankees world series round 2 this year and the marlins to sweep the yankees to completely cause chaos in major league baseball. It would have an amazing affect on every team.

Fox News Chicago also reports that Hendry is also having/had dinner with Girardi tonight.

Think Pee-Wee Herman's "and he just keeps knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and KNITTING!"

If Listach really had a hand in creating the new Rich Hill, heh, I'd love to see him get a job. 3rd base coach? Any reason that a 3rd base coach can't work with pitchers before games?

If not I'd love to see all of our coaches be actual coaches. Ryno for First Base Coach? :D
