His K numbers should go up the longer he's in the big leagues - I didn't realize he had so few strikeouts this year. Verlander had good strikeout totals at Old Dominion (K/9: 10.91, 10.75, 12.86) and in the minors last season (10.36). I didn't realize he had so few strikeouts this year.

BP had an article on this very thing about a month ago. I think they attributed it to his sticking to so many fastballs and missing the big part of the bat, so he's not worrying about it.

I talked to my brother-in-law and I wonder if they don't have him holding off on the number of breaking balls as another precaution for his arm.

I don't know what it is, but with his stuff it is surprising the k's aren't higher. If he is holding back, or if he has a pitch he's not comfortable in the bigs with yet (I thought I read somewhere that he threw a knuckle-curve in the minors and college) then it could be scary what the guy may do in the next few years.

Throughout his time at ODU and in the minors, Verlander had a fastball, his curve and a change. I don't think I've ever read a thing about Verlander throwing a knuckle curve, from the draft on.

Makes sense if the Tigers asked him to limit the number of breaking balls he threw this season.

thats sure to take the pressure off

i say we slide torre onto the list of bad managers after all the stupid stuff he's done involving arod

Wow, ARod batting 8th and Giambi not in the lineup today.

Ideal result: ARod goes 0-4 with 3 K's. The Yankees are down 1 going into the ninth and ARod either strikes out with the bases loaded or GIDP to end the game.

I think he'd have to go into Witness Protection if that happened.

As long as it's in Chicago.

Good job ARod. Chicago, here you come.

But don't bring Torre with you. That should have been an E-3 on Sheffield. Why is Sheffield playing a position he's not used to in an elimination game?

RBI single for Pudge, Tigers now up 4-0.

Man I have been cheering for ARod to do bad so he gets traded to the Cubs, but the more he screws up the less I want him.

2 out of the last 3 years his numbers have been only marginally better then ARam

You guys are serious aren't you?

One can hope, right? Besides, if McDonough is that adamant about winning, you got to imagine he'll at least ask Hendry to pursue. Right? Right?

There is no way we'd get ARod without Ramirez. The Yankees don't downgrade at positions and I don't see another 3B that can step in for the Yankees

If the Cubs A-Ram to a new contract, wouldn't that mean they couldn't trade him until May or June?
