I just got tickets to the game and my first thought? Crap, I'm going to miss the Oregon-Cal game. :(

Haha. I have to miss the Oregon-Cal game because of work as well.

ESPN had an article on the Dodgers starting Maddux today that had this quote in it:

In noting Maddux's 4.69 ERA with the Cubs, one Mets official said, "His stuff was still good, but the [Cubs'] defense was terrible. You'd see the line score from a lot of games, five to six runs, but really it should've been two."

That comment really is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. To imply that at least half of Maddux's earned runs were due to lack of defense is insane.

Agree. So it's the defense's fault that Maddux hung pitches right over the middle of the plate? What's the defense supposed to do when the ball gets hit hard in the gap or if it's hit out of the park? He had a heck of a month in April, but let's be honest...he was absolutely brutal in May and June and the start of July before his last couple of starts. To blame the defense for his struggles is pretty absurb.
