Cubs get Manny

Theriot moves to short.

Soranio to 2b

Lofton

Murton

Lee

M.Ramirez

A.Ramirez

Barrett

Theriot

Lofton would cost less than 3 million a season and if he struggles we might be able to call up Pie or give Pagean a look. That lineup gets on base and sluggs well in addition to stealing a ton of bases.

What would that put the payroll at?

I don't know what the payroll would be, but stories I have read hint that the Red Sox might have to eat half of Manny's salary for the next 2 years in order to trade him.

So I would assume the more the Sox pay out the better the players they would receive? I think a team that goes after him will an AL team because he is terrible in the OF and going to worse as he ages, does anyone know how Manny feels about DH'ing?

Want a moody, unreliable slugger? The Red Sox are expected to shop Manny Ramirez this winter, and the two Chicago teams are believed to be teams he would waive his 10-5 rights to join. The others are the Mets, Angels, Tigers and Phillies. …

I just got sick looking at that.

I can already see the Red Sox trading Manny + Cash for Pat Burrell and Brett Myers. Sox get rid of Manny, but they take on two "troublemakers" and get better in the process.

So let me get this straight....

We get rid of "troublemakers". That didn't work.

Then we get guys who can "catch the ball." That didn't work.

Now we might possibly get the troublemakers back.

We sucked slightly less with troublemakers.

We made the playoffs one year and fell one game short the next. I would take slightly less again please.

I'll take "troublemakers" please. Boston won it all with that "troublemaker". He might be an ass, but I'd be shouting his name when he came up to bat!

Would anyone else sign Bonds to play LF next year?

No.

I could root for Manny, I could even root for Edmonds in cubbie blue. But Bonds would seriously make me consider not being a Cubs fan, atleast for a year.

I would root for Manny. I would root for Edmonds. Under no circumstances would I EVER pull for Bonds on the Cubs unless the World Series was on the line. He's the only player like that.

That's it. I feel it now. We are getting Bonds and we are winning the world series. Talk about curses. The curse is true. And that's how it would probably happen.

At this point, I'd probably root for Belzebub in a Cubs uniform if it might bring us a World Series. While I really don't want Bonds out there, I'd certainly not complain if he could still be productive and play often enough to matter.

You can't compare Bonds and Sosa. Two completely different people and situations.

Sure did. Sosa hasn't said near the monstrosities that have come out of Bond's mouth. Sosa was an egomaniac but he wasn't a racist, spiteful devil like Bond's is.

I'll make a prediction....

If Aramis Ramirez decides to opt out and test the free agent waters, Manny gets traded to the Angels for Ervin Santana and the Red Sox grab Ramirez for 3B and to provide the protection needed for Ortiz. The Red Sox then go out and move Lowell and Crisp for some good bullpen help (maybe a closer?) so that Papelbon can go into the rotation for next year. Willy Mo Pena starts in one of the outfield spots and they pick up serviceable guys for the other two OF spots.

If Ramirez doesn't opt out, Manny stays with the Red Sox unless they can find a way to add a VERY solid bat behind Ortiz. I doubt very much if Manny is gone if they don't seriously improve the offense.

The Red Sox could take Manny's Money and add Carlos Lee and if they decide to move Lowell they can put Youlkis at Third. Any chance the Red Sox go after Gary Sheffield , Frank Thomas or Barry Bonds to play first base?
