Petition to ban naming one guy our only hope for fielding a competitve team.

Like it or not, a healthy Prior is the key to getting to the postseason and advancing.

If our GM has that same philopsophy I will seriously just give up with baseball. I'll find another summer sport to pass time till football.

So we are basically handcuffed waiting for Prior to return to 2003 form?

Forget that fact that we will have 20+ million to work with via free agency?

We are in a pit of baseball hell and our only salvation is dreams of a right hander that hasn't thrown 200 innings in 3 years.

Pass me the vodka.

Here's a thought: Send Prior to the AFL to get sharp ahead of ST..

He doesn't qualify.

Here's a thought. Hire a personal trainer like the one Carlton got in Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

If Prior does the Carlton dance, I'll forgive him for all of his injuries and how befuddling it has been to watch him.

i don't trust hendry to spend 20 million wisely. a healthy effective prior will go a long way to nullify some useless spending hendry will do.

this team is really bad. not only does hendry have to spend 20 mill wisely (ha), but the cubs need prior and lee back to form to have any hope of competing.

No arguments from me there. He sure has pissed away money over the years. But you figure after 3 years of missing the dart board he has to hit eventually. Hopefully.

Would I love a healthy effective Prior? No doubt.

I would also love to go out the bar this weekend and take home

Eva Longoria.

But there is a point where we have to realize the ideal situation just may not happen.

Should we give up on Prior? No way.

Should we adobt a sink or swing approach with him? No way.

I read Eva as Evan and was quite confused as to why you'd want to take home the DRays prospect.

you forget the PC disclaimer "Not that there is anything wrong with that"

but I assure you I was refering to the short italian gal with

perfect breasts

I personally don't think something like a stomach flu will keep Prior from being ready for spring training this year. He has way too much to lose in terms of FA dollars if he doesnt pitch a healthy season. Not saying that is his motivation, but it will be an important factor. I do believe he will do whatever he can to be healthy and ready for next year. If it doesnt happen, it will be because he legitimately has shoulder/elbow problems that will linger. Which is why spending the vast majority of our available dollars on a true #2 and a back of the rotation guy is crucial. If he is in a position to take the #5 slot and be replaced by one of our rooks if necessary, then we can be OK. Think of it this way - every game we have been competitive in for the second half has been started by Z or Hill. Thats 40% of your games. If you sign a Schmidt, you move that number up to 60%. If you get a mid-4 ERA type who will take the ball every fifth day, that gets you up to 80%, and any team can find a way to win 40% of the remaining games, even with an average offense. With a healthy Prior in that last slot, you are significantly more likely than not to win any of the games started by the guys in the rotation laid out above. Starting pitchers set the tone for every game. That is why I think the VORP methodology is flawed. In my opinion, it doesnt take into account the effect that being in control of most of your games with a strong rotation has. It doesnt factor in the fact that the offense is more confident when it takes the field. When was the last start by Hill that this offense didnt throw up enough runs to support him? It has alot to do with the overall mindset of the team. That is why when people say we will have to improve by 30 games by getting the appropriate VORP out of our additions, I dont believe it. This is still a team game.

Anyway, I've gotten off point here. I agree that Prior is a key, but he doesnt need to be if we focus our FA dollars on pitching. Not that I wouldnt love to see Soriano here. But just think there is a need to focus our offseason dollars on the staff.

Petition to ban the phrase "eating crow".

Petition to ban people making outrageous claims about Mark Prior.

by outrageous claims do you mean:

claiming he is the only key to Cubs success

or

claiming that he will never be healthy and effective again

Heh, the best thing is...we have all winter to argue points like this!

I'll eat SO MUCH CROW if Mark Prior pictches atleast 150 innings and has a sub 3.0 ERA next year.

How about a picture of you eating your own socks?

Yeah I'll do that.

I'm gonna hold you to that! :D

Claiming he'll never be healthy and effective again is far more annoying. Especially when it's accompanied by macho BS about Prior's manhood.

The first one doesnt' bother me much because while not the only way the Cubs can contend, a healthy Mark Prior sure goes a loooooonnnng way towards making this a good team again, whereas the "Prior is dead to me" crowd is just insane overreaction.

to be honest, we should have a NSBB pool for what mysterious injury prior is going to come to spring training with that evolves into something that involves his right arm.

I love Clue! I say it was Larry Rothschild, in the bullpen, with the old phone. That's why the Cubs got the new phone system.
