could be a fun/interesting one tonight in Beloit. With an 11 inning game on Wed and using relievers for 4 innings on Tues and Thurs, we have Yepez (25 pitches), Rayborn (1, maybe 2 innings) and thats it in the pen tonight.

Alberto Garcia is the DH and will be the third pitcher out of the pen tonight if needed. Hopefully Mitch can eat some innings.

When we got on the bus today Jody asked me how many pitches I had in me and what I could top out at. He laughed when I said 55 mph and said hell they may not be able to hit it that slow!

On the good side, Blackford did not tear the rotator cuff yesterday. just soreness. He will not throw again in 2006 though.

Beloit will be without four of their top players this weekend and in the playoffs

Post-Season All-Star 1B Erik Lis who leads the league in hitting .326/16/70...37 2B .547 SLG/.402 OBp broke his hamate bone and is out.

2006 draftee 3B Whit Robbins .304/3/26 in 32 MWL Games .482 SLUG is out with two stress fractures in his back

SS Paul Kelly .280/3/48 22 2b has a torn miniscus

2B Drew Thompson .261/3/23 11 2b 7 3b has a stress fracture in his back

Those four combined against us this season were .272 with 5 of their 8 HR and 22 of the 42 RBI (kelly had 10, Lis 3 HR, 7 rbi and 2 walk-off hits against us)

Hopefully the Chiefs can take advantage

Looks like Game 1 will be Atkins (12-4) vs. Yohan Pino (14-2) on Wed and game 2 will be Scott Taylor (8-8) vs. either Eddie Morlan (5-5) or Zach Ward (8-4 overall but 1-4 with Beloit) back home on Thursday. Nothing like 6 or 7 straight games vs. the same team...4 completely meaningless and 2 or 3 with everything on the line!

11 Ks! A new pro career high for Donnie Veal!

Apparently Donnie finishes his seasons strong...he had 10 Ks for Boise in his 2005 finale.

6 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 11 K, 93 pitches.

12 Ks!

He's lifted after facing one batter in the 7th - to get his 12th K of the night.

Donnie's final line: 6.1 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 12 K, 97 pitches.

He walks off the mound to a standing ovation and tips his cap to the Daytona faithful.

:D

Veal finishes his regular season Daytona ERA at 1.67 and a 2.16 ERA overall.

He finishes his 2006 season with 174 Ks in 154.1 innings.

Daytona down 3-0 in the top of the 8th - Hunton has given up all 3 runs here in the 8th. :(

At least Palm Beach is losing 5-0, although St. Lucie is up 4-1 in the 8th.

Atkins 5ip, 2h (both in 1st), 0r, 0bb, 5k 48 pitches...2-0 Chiefs on RBI by Carter (double) and Chirinos (SF)...

Haha, Atkins sure doesn't want to see you on the mound...he's keeping the ol' pitch count low. :D

Sigh. Brevard County up 9-0 in the middle of the 8th.

Jon Hunton and Grant Johnson give up 9 runs in the 8th (aided in part by 2 Jonathan Mota errors).

Yesterday and today:

Ryan Bicondoa 8.1 IP, 2 R, 1 ER

Donnie Veal: 6.1 IP, 0 R

And Daytona is well on it's way to lose both these games. Great job, offense and bullpen. :(

Jupiter up just 5-4 over Palm Beach in the 5th, St. Lucie wins. A Daytona loss drops them to third place.

Is Sir Donald ready for AA? Gallagher - Donnie 1-2 to start the year at AA would be quite the punch, i don't think either will finish the year in AA though.

Iowa up 3-2 after 7. Felix Pie and Eric Patterson are both 2 for 4.

West Tenn down 3-0. Shaver: 7 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 4 K.

Not to be outdone by Gallagher and Veal, Mitch Atkins goes out in style too: 7.2 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 7 K. Peoria up 3-0 after 8.

Boise and Tri-City tied at 1 after 1. Tyler Colvin with his 10th HR of the year, 5th straight game with a HR for Tyler.

I really don't see any way Gallagher starts below AAA next year. Veal will certainly start at AA at least. after absolutely destroying two A levels this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a really quick promotion if he starts off dominating like before at AA.
