I just read today that Tampa Bay renewed its affiliation with Birmingham through 2008.

Don't you mean Mobile? Birmingham has been with the White Sox for quite a while.

Um, yep I do. At least I got the right state. :D

Actually I think you mean Montgomery. Mobile is with San Diego.

The biscuts have been wildly successful. My wife's family lives close by and I've been to several games. The amount of support they get is nothing short of amazing. However, they do a lot to draw the fans to the game as well. There is a lot of entertainment for the kids. The food is great and the seats are all good. The contrast to the D-Jaxx game I went to are shocking.

Um, OK, so much for trusting my memory on this. I checked the paper again, and Montgomery it is. As I said before, at least I had the right state. :D (Of course, that's like saying it's OK to confuse IU with Purdue since they're both in Indiana.)

CubinNY;

You're family would be correct. I live about 10 minutes north of Montgomery and the Biscuits---ever since they move to Montgomery---have been welcome very gracefully. The Biscuits should be in Montgomery for a LONG time.

Mayor Bright (Mont. Mayor) recently lost $1000 because Gabriel Martinez hit the PASSING train----LF is like 325 ft, and the train tracks are about another 50-75 feet behind the field---going opposite field. And when he hit the train, the fans---what were left of the fans, because the game was being poured on---went crazy.

So yeah, food and sporty wise, Montgomery ABSOLUTELY loves the Biscuits. Even tho Charlie Montoya (the manager of the team) is prolly the leading contender for the Rays AAA job.

Update on the Double-A affiliation.. there are currently four teams looking for a Double-A home (Cubs, Arizona, Seattle & San Diego). If the Cubs and the Diamond Jaxx don't re-sign a two year deal, it would appear that West Tenn would have either Seattle, Arizona or San Diego as their Double-A affiliate.

As for Montgomery, I am not totally convinced that they will be successful for many years to come. The stadium is great but it's built in downtown, which has nothing in terms of hotels, bars, restuarants, etc..

Unless the city of Montgomery gets off their butt and starts developing the downtown area, that franchise will see it's attendance figures dwindle dramatically. I'm looking forward to seeing how this club will be received once the typical three to five year honeymoon period comes to an end.

To me it only makes sense that if West TN doesn't get the Cubs again, they'll go for the Diamond Backs. Diamondbacks and DiamondJaxx. I haven't heard anything else about the Cubs coming to East Tennessee. From what my friend has told me, it's very close but no announcement yet.

Vance, I really like Trustmark Park.. they did a wonderful job putting the stadium together. The only blemish is the radio booth on both the home and road side. It's to cramped and they did a poor job of constructing it but the rest of the stadium is really impressive.

As far as ranking it with the rest of the league, here is how I rank the stadiums:

1) Jacksonville (hands down)

2) Montgomery

3) Mississippi

4) Tennessee

5) West Tenn

6) Chattanooga

7) Birmingham

8) Carolina

9 (tie) Huntsville and Mobile (both places need to blow their stadiums up and try again)

Trustmark is the only SL park I've been to, and I really like it. It's easy to get to and most of the staff have been really friendly. I just wanted to know how it compared to other places.

I just wished the Jaxx made it there more than that one five game series. I was only able to make two of those games.

You need to get out more. Two blocks from the Biscuts park is a brew pub that has good, not great, micro-brews. It's the only place in the entire region where one can get draft beer. They have some stupid law out-lawing draft beer. I've never been quite sure of the logic surrounding the law.

The rest of downtown is pretty run down though. All the development is in the small towns outside of Montgomery, but the area is one of the fastest growing in the state. And from what I gather from the in-laws Montgomery loves the biscuts. They have marketed very from the inception of the franchize. All the way from team colors to the name of the team where picked by the fans. It also hasn't hurt that they've had a lot of talent pass through though.

Same thing with me at Carolina. Last year the Jaxx played three series there, and I made it to at least one game each series. This year it was a single five-game series and I made it to two of the games.

I wonder if the fewer but longer series schedule this year was designed for reducing travel expenses because of gasoline prices. That's the only reason I can think of.

FYI, current affiliates for the teams still without AA agreements other than the Cubs are: Arizona--Tennessee; San Diego--Mobile; and Seattle--San Antonio. Those therefore would appear to be the possibilities for the Cubs next year if they don't renew the agreement with West Tenn. San Antonio is in the Texas League, where the Cubs several years ago had their AA team in Midland.

Dollars to doughnuts that a move to San Antonio would cause the Cubs hitting prospects to be regarded much more highly and their pitching prospects to be thought of worse.

Heh, hopefully the important people who evaluate realize Pringles is a pitcher's park and the SL a pitcher's league.

Gotta love the Biscuits mascot.
