...and after watching the last two, I hope they lose the next 29 in a row.

In fact, I will go on a giant Tequila binge if they win 5 or less games in the final month of the season.

Something tells me the Cubs are going to struggle to win 60 games.

They should just call everyone up that's in single A and let them play.

Could they be any worse than this bunch?

We could make it an NSBB event! I'd be all about it!

This is so pathetic it's comical. I laughed until it hurt after we got swept.

i honestly couldnt care less... but as a fan it really hurt hearing it on and on, on the news....

I think the one positive note for the Cubs is that they have had a chance to see a lot of these rookie pitchers. Let's be honest. The season has been over for 3 months. At least they know what they have in the minors. If they let Wood and Prior walk, they will have some money to spend. Not to mention some of the other FA's they have.

That's all well and good, but there's not a whole lot out there to spend it on in the pitching department and that's where the Cubs are really going to be hurting.

There's no point in letting Prior walk right now since they have him on the cheap through 2007.

not a true blue then.

We should hope that they win 29 in a row make the wild card and Dusty (as much as I dislike him) proves all of us wrong.

That's not being a fan, that's blind loyalty. Anyone can be blindly loyal to a team. It takes a true fan to recognize what's best for a team, and hope for that.

Don't accuse posters of not being as much of a Cubs fan as you. This is considered a personal attack, and is against board guidelines.

It has been a truely awful last 12 months.

Cubs three biggest rivals make the playoffs (Sox, Cards, Stros), two of which make it to the world series. All while the Cubs fall apart, again. Next season: both the Cards and Sox are primed to reach the playoffs again. Meanwhile the Cubs are injured (again) and completely falling apart at the seams.

This has been the worst 2 seasons I can remember. Not just because the Cubs are among the worst in baseball, but because the biggest rivals are playing well and building a winning tradition.

2003 must've been brutal for Sox and Cards fans, but nothing can compare to this.

I gave up on the season in may. The past week hasn't really affected me. I only knew they lost yesterday because I saw it on SportsCenter this morning.

Same old Cubs, boys. Nothing is going to change.

Actually he's under the Cubs' control through 2008. His free agency clock didn't start ticking until 2003 because he didn't come up until the middle of 2002.

so there is a definition now for a fan?? Where is it wikapedia? It isn't blind it is hopeful. I recognize that dusty stinks as a manager. I also recognize we don't live up to the potential any of these guys have. To hope for a win from you favorite team is not to much to ask, is it?

I understand how you might feel that way if you aren't a lover of baseball and in comes college football/pro and "boom" you are excited about those teams. My summers revolve around baseball and care little for any other team sport. Grant me my moment of dreaming, non-reality. I enjoy it, along with the other voices in my head.

(I should not have said you weren't a true blue though)
