So how high up on the pitcher abuse scale does Mulder rate?

I guess it's possible that more than one organization has made the same errors as the Cubs. I just didn't think it would be the Cardinals.

here's a thought: do you suppose the Cardinals wish they had old Matty Mo back? :)

No. He got more money than he deserved.

If you want to make a "what if" jab then just stick with what works...

Mulder for Haren, Calero, and Barton.

It says it all.

It's good to see at least one player the Cards pick up go south on them. Usually they pick something off the scrap heap and it turns out to be gold. No pity for the Cards. I feel bad for Mulder though.

actually, you would blame the A's. They basically used up his arm then sold him high.

Exactly.

It would appear as though they did the same thing with Hudson, but they didn't get much out of that trade.

Not very, 81st to date in 2006 and 124th in 2005. Both years well under 10,000 PAP

for comparison Zambrano had 161,427 PAP in 2005 and has 111,132 to date in 2006

Speculation is that the ineffectiveness and injury is due to pitching hurt combined with a lot of use. It hasn't just been over work of his arm, but his relatively high work load at a young age combined with his major hip injury and coming back fast from it caused a mechanical break down which led to the shoulder injury.

If true, I think Outshined and I deserve kudos for calling it.

Vance was pretty vocal in his belief that Mulder's hip injury would hurt him in the long run as well.

You're right, I remember that. Kudos to Vance too!

IIRC, quite a few people were skeptical of Mulder's future durability when that trade went down.

That I was.

Pitchers use their hips more than anyother part of the body to deliver a baseball. I could see this coming. A pitcher has hip problems, and a couple of years later he is having shoulder surgery.

Most pitchers for the Cubs skip the hip altogether and head straight to shoulder surgery.

the cubs target pitchers without hips in the draft . . .

The hips deliver the baseball. You may think the arm is the reason for a pitcher being able to deliver a 90mph fastball, but really it is the trunk area of the body that supplies the power. That is why pitchers are always working on their core muscles. It all starts with a stable foundation. If you're imbalanced in the core area, your chances of injury are really high. Arm speed is more important than arm strength. The more arm speed a pitcher can generate the faster his fastball will be.

You just quote the same thing in two separate posts with two separate responses.

Yeah, because I had two things I wanted to say. I didnt know it was against the law to do something like that.

There's no law against it. There are also no laws against hitting the enter key and just making a new paragraph for a new point.
