I gave up wondering long ago.

Restovich is a big lumbering dude who strikes out a lot. The Cubs want to fill their bench with versatile players who can field many positions and whose primary offensive skill is to put the ball in play.

He should be the Nevin of this team, but the Cubs aren't interested in cost-effective solutions.

he would be a great platoon guy with jones and can pinch hit & play 1st.

hopefully the new manager in 2007 will see the value he has and they won't get rid of him or let him rot back in iowa next year.

As a guy who played well but rotted in Iowa all year despite an obvious need for the help in the majors, I'd have to believe he and his agent will be looking elsewhere for the opportunity.

no kidding - its unbelievable that a team as offensively challenged as the cubs wouldn't even give him a look. what a waste.

Staying in Iowa all year probably gave him greater negotiating leverage, as he was allowed to put up great numbers, as opposed to being on the Cubs and not getting any at bats.

am I the only one failing to understand why he is in AAA all year?

He washed out as a Pirate. Bring him up and start him today. Maholm needs a confidence builder.

A rag tag team of players on a lonely quest - respectability!

They have a better chance of finding the holy grail.

that quest isn't lonely enough for my taste.

Speaking of which, I'm really surprised he's (Nevin) still on the Cubs. Hard to believe some team in the race wouldn't take a flier on a guy who's shown he's capable of bumping into a few HRs here and there.

I'd be shocked if no one expressed interest - especially the Phillies, who just got Conine. I have the feeling that Hendry didn't want to get rid of him.

Restovich with Pittsburgh last year: .214/.283/.345

Granted in only 84AB's. Yet those 84 AB's were the most in a season in his major league career.

Restovich seems like a guy who could end up in KC playing DH on a regular basis.

Maybe, but it would probably be a mistake. I think he's best served as bench help, or maybe platoon with a LH hitter.

I honestly see no reason why Restovich shouldn't platoon with Jones in RF next year, assuming both are back with the club. In fact, there really is not good reason why that wasn't done this year. Restovich wasn't even on the 40-man last time I checked.

Third time I've posted this. Restovich's Major League numbers against LHPs is .280/.340/.430. Perfect platoon partner for Jones.

How dare you make any sense.

This would certainly be better than Jones hitting against lefties, but I wouldn't want those numbers going in for a guy who only is going to hit against left handers. Surely we can find a person for 2007 that can hit one side of the plate better than that.

Let's assume that Restovich's MLB stats are his level of talent. A right-handed hitter with those numbers against LHPs would still figure to hit .250 with some power against RHPs.

But is that his true level of talent? His minor league numbers indicate he could do better. He never really got regular playing time in the Majors. Statheads loved Josh Willingham, he'd get called up, go 1 for 19, and be labeled a AAAA player. Then he got regular playing time. If you can rake in AAA, you can be productive in the Majors.

Restovich is at his peak age right now. I am not advocating dumping Jones to give him the RF job. But as a bench player who will get 200 ABs and make $500,000, he's the kind of player the Cubs should be adding so they can spend money where they don't have an internal solution.
