If Ozzie makes that comment he's fresh and funny! When Baker makes it it's Racist? What is this Cubs.com fourms?

I don't think there are a lot of people here who think Ozzie is fresh and funny. You are talking about the reaction of one group to Ozzie with the reaction of a completely different group to Dusty.

In addition to what Tim said, lets not let this thread become a racism argument. If you want to do that, I'm sure there's probably a thread in Rants that will suit your needs.

I'm making a comment for general purposes. And I do think that a lot of people think Ozzie is fresh and funny up until he starts to lose, which is happening this year. Whatever the case, the comment was just unnecessary...

Just as I thought...In todays Sun Times.

No mention of Bynums blunder but he is still talking about Theriots mistake

and downright mocking him.

http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-cubnt24.html

Rookie Ryan Theriot committed a baseball sin Tuesday when he tried to steal third base in the eighth inning after doubling with two out. Theriot was thrown out with the 3-4-5 hitters due up.

''He was trying to make something happen, but I explained to him you already made something happen with a double and two outs,'' Baker said. ''Here's a young man who's been to the College World Series. They know [better]. Even my [7-year-old] son called me and said, 'Dad, you don't make the last out at third.'''

Talk about a unnecessary shot to Theriot. Complete B.S.

Dusty Baker is an ignorant racist jackass

First off Ozzie's act is garbage.

Secondly..why is he mocking Theriot still, 2 days later, after he made a mistake when the Cubs just lost thanks to a bone headed play by Bynum.

Yet he doesn't even mention Bynums gaff.

The evidence of Baker's predijuce is clear.

I listed Dusty's post game interview last night and not once did he mention

Bynum's mistake(which pretty much lost them the game)

I don't recall a reporter asking him about Theirots mistake from 2 days ago yet that doesn't stop him from bringing it up.

So do you guys find this comment acceptable

They know [better]. Even my [7-year-old] son called me and said, 'Dad, you don't make the last out at third.'

Basically implying that a player made a mistake so bad that his 7 year old

kid knows better. Is that showing respect to a player as a manager?

Is that treating a player like a man? Supposedly thats Dusty's forte....unless of course your a rookie whom he doesn't like(in this case Theriot)

Dusty gets bashed for being a players manager and Dusty get bashed for calling out his players. It's a lose, lose situation for him...It's obvious he needs to get outta town after this year is up.

Dusty gets bashed for only calling out certain players publicly, while defending others to no end.

I agree with Tim here. Dusty has made up the lamest excuses to defend terrible play by guys like Alou, Neifi, Macias, Lenny Harris, Jones, Alf, Estes, etc. but will publicly denounce play from guys like Patterson, Choi, Hill, Murton, Cedeno, Theriot, any of the "rookie" pitchers, etc.

It certainly appears that he has "pets".

Dusty Baker is a buffoon, this we can all agree on. He is also bigoted--against young, position players. IMO it is just happenstance that pretty much every young position player in the Dusty Era just happens to be white, while just about every worthless hack is not, that's just random.

No, Dusty is an anti-rookie bigot, if there is such a thing.

And a buffoon, did I mention that? And dumb. And dumber. And......

And that's what all of this devolves down to - second grade level observations that have no basis in what actually gets accomplished on the field. Quotes can be used any way anyone wants to use them, and can come from reporters with their own agenda. Yes, Bynum's mistake was also boneheaded, but did anyone bother to ask about Bynum?? If so, did any comments get purposely left out because they weren't sexy enough?? Just because some have preconceived opinions about both Baker and certain players doesn't mean it's reality.

Every young player in the past 4 years have gotten plenty of opportunity with the Cubs, some more here than in their new organizations. Some have been put into important roles at a young age. If anything, Baker has used young pitchers too much, and has had no qualms with using them.

False.

Well, now those are some meaty facts, backed up with a lot of objective data. I'm as convinced now as the day he was hired. It's popular, so it's gotta be true.

Further proof ot the riot's banishment---

"That would be better, but you don’t have a true (shortstop),” Baker said. “When Izturis gets back, he (Cedeno) will move back to second. But at this point, it’s unfair to the pitcher and unfair to the fans that come to see us play (if Cedeno wouldn’t be at short). Anybody else would be out of position.”

Isn't Theriot a "true" shortstop? Hasn't he logged sufficient minor league innings at the position? Doesn't he play it pretty well?

Yeah, I don't understand that. From what I've heard, Theriot and Bynum have both played shortstop a decent amount in the minors (Theriot probably more than Bynum because Bynum has played a little bit of everywhere). I'd like to see Cedeno get a day or two off to clear his head again and go with a Theriot/Bynum DP combination (I don't care whatsoever which way you go with that-but probably Theriot at SS and Bynum at 2B). After that, put Cedeno back at 2B where you wanted him to learn the position. The only good thing is-the longer he's at SS, the less likely we pencil him in as the starting 2B next year.

What Dusty is really thinking:

"I'm probably not going to be back next year, so why should I suffer by giving playing time to the youngsters who will be back? It isn't my problem."

Posted

I'd like to see Cedeno get the rest of the season off.

Just my opinion.

Bad news: Bynum is going to be back next year, too.

the problem is that dusty doesn't call out everyone and he doesn't punish everyone..

theriot does something stupid on the bases as compared to alou in the past? or bynum not covering a bag? those 2 certainly didn't get the punishment that ryan did..

also am i missing something? is bynum any type of prospect? isn't he basically a utility guy?

why in god's name would we not see theriot? i know his obp is awfully high for a hendry/baker club but you can't fault the guy for getting on base!i'm sure as he matures under baker he will stop doing that! he just needs to learn that walks clog the bases!!!!!!!!!!
