Blog post from the mirror about how big the difference in player development is in England vs the other places. The place in this clip is THE US AMERICA.

Barcelona-USA smoked an Arsenal affiliated youth squad. Check out #10. That kid has some [expletive] wheels, some handle and some finishing. Damn.

This is a good tactical breakdown of Roma's new manager and how he'll use the General: http://theshinguardian.com/2012/07/05/when-in-roma-michael-bradley-champions-league-hunting/

Some mixed emotions happening as Dempsey to Liverpool breaks on twitter.

I was just coming here to post about this.

I don't know if I like this. Non-CL, heading into a crap environment with half that fanbase gearing up to hate him because of the color of his passport before he even plays a game?

On the other hand, it's Liverpool...the name still has some weight. And if he made a significant difference in that collection of mostly crap, Suarez, Reina and what's left of Gerrard winning the league in 3 years he would be a legend for all time.

Pros: huge club. he'll play every game when fit. they will be top 4 contenders.

Cons: worst fans in sports. Truly vile people. Not currently in champs league.

Their fans truly are awful. I can't think of a more loathsome fanbase.

One guy claimed that Arsenal was supposed to hold talks w him early this week. I'm still hold out hope. That said I will still probably buy his new jersey regardless.

Arsenal's a better fit for him for a bunch of reasons, but I'm not sure if their internal politics will allow them to move for a guy like Clint, lest he be seen as RVP's replacement.

With all of the info and angry shareholders coming public, if they don't quickly reinvest the RVP money it will be interesting to see everything unfold. Though if it helps get rid of Kronke it's not a bad thing.

So I've never really followed the Premiership that closely, but on the heels of successfully getting more into MLS this season, I think I'm going to make more of an effort with the EPL this fall. I was able to get into MLS by focusing on the Fire and reading up on things from there, so I figure something similar is a good idea for the EPL. Which is a long winded way of saying I want to find a Premiership team to pull for. Without referencing a 15 year old Bill Simmons column, does anyone have any opinions? At first pass, Tottenham seems to strike a nice balance of "good enough to win things without having reprehensible fans/ownership or trying to buy titles". Thoughts? Or am I better off trying my hand at an altogether different league like the Bundesliga?

Don't fight the EPL. It really is the most fun league for an English speaker to follow. You can read the local press, listen to podcasts etc.

I don't have any advice because I haven't been able to lock in on a team either. I just root for the Americans. I'm guessing the first American to score goals for a huge club not named Liverpool will eventually be what gets me.

Yeah, I'm at the same point as you and was considering a similar post.

I haven't bothered following a team, I just watch whatever games are on FSC or ESPN in the mornings and my interest has just grown from there.

I also just followed the Americans initially. On a trip to London last February I went to a match at Arsenal where they fell behind 0-2 before scoring 5 unanswered against Tottenham, that atmosphere locked my allegiance on the spot. I went to an FA Cup match at White Hart Lane about 10 days later, and already found myself rooting against the bastards.

I mostly follow the Americans, but the nice thing about not locking into a team right away is that you can enjoy each game, get a sense of each sides' style and identity and go from there.
