I'd do it were I either team. Marketing coup for Fulham, Liverpool get a better player for the next few years + cash and Fulham gets the better player long-term and a huge future pay day when they sell him on should he ever pull his head out of a pint.

That moment when Liverpool fans realize they paid more for Carroll and Henderson than PSG paid for Thiago and The Great Zlatan.

 

They are a terribly run club. I guess if anyone can thrive under adversity it's Clint, but I'd rather him go to, you know, a sane, stable club that's not awash in racism and filled with guys like Gerrard and Carragher.

England's provincialism re: soccer is so funny. Their league is a shining testament to the great diversity in the game and yet they can't see the forest for the trees. Obscene transfer fees, revering terrible human beings because they hustle and play tough and constantly overrating their national team but never really taking them to task when they fall short of those over-inflated expectations...good lord.

I'll bet a million dollars this doesn't happen.

 

To this point, there is no confirmation that the tournament is a go and in world soccer it is dangerous to go with anything before it is confirmed, but Ramos is often reliable and this tournament makes too much sense

 

One horribly wrong statement followed by a right one. Ramos is constantly unreliable as a source, and he's spouted this kind of stuff before and it didn't go anywhere. FIFA wouldn't sanction it, as its a cross-federation tournament, and you'd have a hell of a time convincing club managers to be ok with their guys for a non sanctioned series of friendlies in the guise of a tourney, not to mention the players that would possibly skip it.

 

Secondly, a 16 team tournament would be a bloodbath. CONMENBOL has 10 members, so are they going to basically send 8 teams? Or will all 10 participate? Where is CONCACAF going to find 4 teams other than Mexico, US, Panama and Honduras that aren't going to embarrass themselves against the likes of Brasil and Argentina and won't get stomped 8-0?

 

Not to mention this is going to go up against Euro 2016? I want this to happen, would love it to happen, but there's no way this happens.

It's so great to see Mikey (and hopefully Clint, soon) swimming in the deep end of the pool.

It makes me feel small time, but pictures of a US player shaking hands as Totti's teammate is really cool. Someday soon it won't be remarkable, but right now it is. And Mikey and Clint being the first guys to do it (assuming it happens for Deuce)? It's even cooler because they are the kind of hyper competitive tough guys that are made to break through glass ceilings. They will never accept doubters, they'll fight through adversity. Guys from the US have been talented enough before them, but had the ability to accept the easier way. These guys can't.
