Despite missing quite a few chances (including an 89th minute PK), the Fire beat Colorado 1-0 to remain in second.

I was there :)

After the game a friend of mine who was participating in a charity event at halftime, got his head shaved by Nate Jacqua. He's actually a pretty cool guy in person. I thanked him for helping to beat Chelski :)

Cool. I was wondering why Jacqua wasn't out there, but it looks like Sarachan just wanted to give him the day off.

Sadly, I doubt I'll be able to make it down to Bridgeview this year. Looked like a decent crowd, though.

I agree with the color commentator who said that Robinson was the most surpsised guy out there when his header went in. Nice corner by Armas.

And yeah, the buildup was good. Perfect feed to Carr. It's a shame that Gutierrez hesitated on the penalty kick. The GK guess correctly at first, but if he had kept his stride and just kicked it, it would have gone in.

Both teams had a ton of near misses last night, making it a pretty good game.

A high scoring night for the MLS, though. The Red Bulls won 6-0 over RSL and the Galaxy upset DC United at RFK 5-2.

Not only is Herron leaving the team for four games in order to play with the Costa Rican national team, but Chad Barrett may miss the rest of the season with a broken bone in his foot. Hopefully Rolfe can make it back by this weekend.

The Fire close out the month tonight with a match against the Dynamo at Toyota Park. Gametime is set for 8 PM central and it will be on CSNC.

Very strange game tonight, full of non-calls and makeup calls.

But the Fire escape with a 2-2 tie. NY and KC tied, though.

DaMarcus Beasley joined Manchester City on a 1 season loan from PSV Einhoven.

This means 2 things: Beasley will get a chance to regain his confidence in a new enviroment, and Lee Nguyen may get more PT for Einhoven. Either way, the USMNT benefits.

Also, American-born striker Giuseppe Rossi was transferred from Man U to Newcastle United. Rossi has played for the Italian U-21 side, and would be oh-so-perfect for the USMNT, but has consistently said his desire is to play for the Italians in international play. Which is a shame, since he is probably a better talent that Adu, Nguyen, or any of the other up and coming USMNT players.

More excitingly, perhaps, is that Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano - both of whom featured in Argentina's World Cup squad - have joined West Ham Utd.

A full list of transfers involving UK clubs is here.

Dumb question, but why are there no Premier League games scheduled between 8/28 and 9/9? Is it because of Champions or other league play?

Euro 2008 qualifying on 9/2 (Sat) and 9/6 (Wed).

Guess who's really pleased with this news? :)

Carlton Cole? ;)

 A guy just put out a new option file for WE with updated kits, rosters, etc. I played my first game of a new master league with the Hammers and put two in with Tevez. I really couldn't be more pleased with Hammers management and if this is what's gonna happen if the team is bought, then I'm all for it. I simply cannot wait for Saturday for the game against Villa. I'd say it will take a few games for Tevez and Mascherano to get accustomed to the Prem, but once they do, look out.

Just watched the Fire game. A bit too sloppy towards the end, but a solid win. They remain in 2nd place and open up a 4 point lead.

If they can get by DC United on Wednesday night, they'll host the USOC championship game.

Here's some more drama from the premiership.

Former Chelsea player William Gallas, recently transferred to Arsenal with Ashley Cole heading to Chelsea, reportedly told Chelsea if he wasn't transferred he would score an own goal in the season opener against Manchester City.

Poor Chelski, they can't handle the fact that a top class defender just doesn't want to play for them anymore, so they come out in the british press and sensationalize their ex defender to make up for the fact that their season ticket holders are critical (as well they should be) of the move of one of the best defenders in World football for Cashley Cole. Gallas has already called this story a load of bunk and now the French coach has come out to defend Gallas. He has his own axe to grind, however, because Chelski won't release Makalelei to play in qualifiers for Euro 2008. Such are the dramas of the greatest show on earth, the EPL

Yep, I've got the alarm set for Sunday at 7am. Ive got a six pack of Newcastle and my sirius radio to listen to the game against Villa, and "I'm forever Blowing Bubbles" for the first goal. I honestly hope (but doubt) that the Hammers will be able to keep one or both of them past this season, but it's so nice to see em try and do something. I really think that once these two get adjusted to the Prem, they may price themselves out of West Ham's range due to their performance.
