I really, really hope Spain can pull this thing out. They definitely have the advantage with both Pirlo and Gattuso out for Italy but you still never know with the Spanish.

The tackle by De Rossi in the 24th against Villa was way worse than what the Spanish guy did when he got a yellow and yet De Rossi only gets a free kick called with no card.

Maybe it is because I am rooting for Spain, but this ref has been terrible so far. Also Andy Gray is awesome and you can tell his hatred for the Italians and that is awesome.

Spain's getting shafted with these calls. Grosso just stepped on Silva's foot right at the edge of the penalty area and the ref called nothing. It was borderline on the penalty box so he could have just called a free kick right outside if he didn't want to hand out a penalty kick, but he should have called something.

Gray said it right. Those are easy foul calls if they weren't in/near the box, so he's afraid to do it. The Italians know it, so they just pack the box and swing away at the ankles of the Spanish.

Bogus offsides call prevents Beasley and the US from (likely) making it 2-0.

Spain has clearly been the better and more aggressive team today but they just can't break through.

 

And a great save by Casillas after a scramble in the box keeps the game tied.

That was hilarious. During live play it looked like a dive but that's obviously from much further away from where the referee was. But the replay clearly showed Villa slipped. Like the announcers were saying, it doesn't have to be either a dive or a penalty. Players do slip from time to time.
