Clint has been their best and most consistent player for 4 games straight.

Also, we don't talk US keepers much, but Brad Guzan has been on a great run of form for Villa. One of the best in the league this season.

Kljestan is having a great season, so is Boyd, Jozy, Cameron, Jones, the 5 guys at Tijuana...its been a really good year for yanks abroad.

Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers!

As a 16 seed! Of course not the same as basketball, they were basically the last of the 1-4 seeds with a 1st round bye. IU soccer is back! Believe they won 1 and were runner up in 2 cups when I was in school. Haven't done much since then.

First College Cup appearance since 2004 (having won the championship in 2003 and 2004). However, after that, the Mike Freitag years were poor -- outside of the title in his first year with Jerry Yeagley's leftovers -- and the team slowly deteriorated. In what really endeared me to Fred Glass, Glass correctly did not renew Freitag's contract and preemptively stopped the rot (unlike what had previously occurred in other IU programs). While I think most fans were perhaps hoping for Caleb Porter, Todd Yeagley was a good choice and is off to a great start (obviously).

Eight National Championships, pretty good.

Benny Felhaber to SKC means either Zusi to Europe or the classiest central mf pairing in MLS history. Oh to be a forward on that team.

LOVE THIS

Arsenal lost in the League Cup today. To Bradford City, a League Two (fourth division) team. With all of its starters in the lineup.

Good job, Arsenal.

Can't decide who will go first Arsene or Mack Brown. I've got more hope for Wenger but not much.

The Timbers are in for Mix Diskerrud?!

That's awesome for them. I'm starting to come around on Gavin Wilkinson. Moved up in allcoation yesterday, uses it to nab one of the brightest young attacking midfielders in the US pool. Caleb Porter worked well with him for the u-23's.

Really impressed by this signing if it goes through. Caleb Porter's fingerprints are already all over this team.

Osvaldo Alonso is trailing with West Ham. They're trying to buy him (obviously - he's really really good) and he wants to play for the US.

On June 19, 2012, Alonso became a citizen of the United States of America[8] and he stated that he would like to play for the United States national team despite playing for Cuba in the past.[9]

Alonso has not been called up to the Cuban national team since he defected to the United States in June 2007. The FIFA statutes state that:

"If a Player who has been fielded by his Association in an international match in accordance with art. 5 par. 2 permanently loses the nationality of that country without his consent or against his will due to a decision by a government authority, he may request permission to play for another Association whose nationality he already has or has acquired.

Champions League draw

Galatasaray-Schalke

Celtic-Juventus

Arsenal-Bayern Munich

Shakhtar Donetsk-Borussia Dortmund

Milan-Barcelona

Real Madrid-Manchester United

Valencia-Paris Saint-Germain

Porto-Málaga

Tough draws for the English teams, particularly ManU, though them vs. Real should be really good. The way it's going, if they keep winning, Real is probably going to have the toughest path to the final of any team in history.

Europa League draw was also today. We get Tottenham-Lyon, Liverpool-Zenit, Newcastle-Metalist Kharkiv, Chelsea-Sparta Prague. If each advance, we'd have Tottenham-Inter/CFR Cluj, Liverpool-FC Basil/Dnipro, Newcastle-Anzhi Makhachkala/Hannover and Chelsea-Ajax/Steaua Bucuresti.

Both the UCL and EL return in the middle of February.

Brad Friedel signs a deal that will keep him at Spurs untill 2014.

He'll be 43 at the end of that contract.
