This Clint Dempsey kid is pretty decent. 3 in the run today. Season shooting percentage over 50%.

Best season for an American abroad?

The BBC analysts were really gushing on Final Score yesterday.

It really sucks when the winning goal (and the penalty kick drawn which led to the winning goal) are scored by a guy who should have been sent off earlier in the match for a deliberate stomp.

I never thought I would be disappointed with a loss at Man City but damn I'm disappointed right now. Defoe nearly got the winner earlier in injury time and then the PK happened.

So close to at least getting a point and they end up with nothing.

Deuce is about to get paid this summer.

Martin Jol had to issue an official, hand's off today, while Steve Nicol is tapping him up for Liverpool, Arsenal remain interested, Aston Villa are in as are QPR and Newcastle. This isn't even factoring interest abroad.

Craig Bellamy with a late-ish goal against his previous team, Manchester City, to secure a 2-2 draw and advance Liverpool to the Carling Cup final against Cardiff (for which Steve Gerrard's cousin plays). Not the most important of cups, but it would be nice to win something.

I doubt Deuce moves his family out of London. For me it's either Arsenal or he stays at Fulham.

As a sports fan used to North American sports, it still boggles my mind that London can support 5 (!!) soccer teams playing in the same league.

I would [expletive] love to see him at Arsenal. I would order the jersey the day of the signing.

Why? It's not all that different than Chicago supporting the Bulls, Blackhawks, Sox, Cubs, and Bears. It's not like they have other huge sports draws.

It's actually potentially more than that. Charlton and West Ham are in London, and have been in the Premiership pretty recently.

London is a massive city, though.

Me too. It's a Nike team as well, so it makes some sense there.

I just don't see any other realistic suitors. He won't leave Fulham unless he's going to get Champions League play out of it, and he's never indicated a desire to leave London. Clint quashed the PSG stuff because he didn't want to uproot his kids. I don't see either Manchester side springing for him, Liverpool won't be in the Champions League for at least one more season, and I don't see him at Chelsea. That leaves either Spurs or Arsenal. He's a far better buy for Arsenal than Spurs for a lot of reasons.

There's lots of people who are fans of several of the Chicago teams. You don't see too many ManU/Arsenal fans.

Those two aren't both in London, but your point remains.

Well, it seems like my brain just gave up for the day.

Well, people are fans of all those teams at the same time. I doubt people in London are fans of every London club at the same time. I would just most would just pick a team and stick with it, like Cubs/Sox or Giants/Jets.

Millwall never get any love :(

There are actually 14 professional soccer teams in London (professional = playing in the Premiership or the Football league)

I buy your logic, but if a deal materializes and he gets the chance to double his salary, he'll go where he's wanted.

http://usa10kit.com/2012/01/26/dynamo-kiev-in-quiet-shea-bid/

A source with knowledge of the dealings told 10Kit Thursday that FC Dallas winger Brek Shea is in the sites of Ukrainian outfit Dynamo Kiev.

The perennial Champions League also-rans are supposedly prepared to pay $10 million for the Hoops star, but Shea’s camp isn’t convinced by the idea of going to Eastern Europe, and seems to think they can negotiate a better deal elsewhere, the source said.

A $10 million fee would match the most paid for an MLS player, dished out when Villarreal purchased Jozy Altidore from NY Red Bull.

The source said the bid was made earlier this week, and is still on the table, but since things have gone quiet as Shea’s camp explores other options.

Shea is returning to Dallas today after featuring for an unconvincing 90 minutes in the Americans’ 1-0 win in Panama Wednesday.

Actually, if you can't get in to one of the big spending leagues, Eastern Europe is where the money is.

Virtually unknown teams in Eastern Europe who have very rich owners ( like Azhi Makashkala and Terek Grozni in the Russian premier league) have recently been luring away players from smaller leagues and as well as aging stars like Roberto Carlos and Samuel Eto'o.
