The only one that looked credible was from last year so maybe it was just some joe-schmo who I thought was an analyst on ESPN.

Anyway did anyone here play soccer competitively and what was their rule on red cards?

Yeah. The rule was if you got a red card, you had to answer three US Civics test questions correctly or else you'd have to tie one of your legs to a rope connected to a post next to the corner flag so you could only play in the corner.

Yes for 25 years and also in Mexico. 2 yellows = 1 red, red card and your kicked out the rest of this game and the next game and your team plays down a man for the rest of the current game. This rule is universal and has been around forever.

Have any of you ragging on me ever played soccer competitively? You may think I'm an idiot because you watch FIFA and knew that rule, but from my view I have played soccer for near 12 years and that was never a rule for me so why should I think it was a rule for FIFA? Sorry I didn't play in college or in Europe so I don't know the rules.

Wow you must have been pretty good, I loved playing it but once I got a job in high school I quit the team since a 120 dollar paycheck was pretty nice when you are living on 20 dollars a month. I guess I've just never seen a red card in a competitive league because I checked the rules and all the Youth Soccer leagues that was not how they played, you just were out for the rest of the game. I know thats rec though so obviously they will have some pretty loose rules.

One of our teammate's dad played professionally in scotland and his son was amazing. It really makes me wonder how good out mens team would be if it was our number one sport. At the moment its our top athletes 4th choice, maybe even lower.

Better to keep quiet and be thought an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

What exactly am I at fault for doing? I played a lot of soccer, but I never said I was an expert. I even stated I found Soccer boring to watch and was just saying that our rules were different in the leagues I played in. I stopped playing when I was 16 and in my experience that was not a rule or at least I never saw it. This all started by me asking a simple question and then had all the soccer nerds bash me for it.

It's probably the most recognizable rules infraction punishment in all of sports. In the history of mankind. With the possible exception of Caesar doing the thumbs up thumbs down thing.

Nope, still more famous.

I've mainly been a lurker for years and now I can see why. People hound you for saying anything they consider stupid or ignorant, although this is the internet so I can't be shocked.

WHEN IS THIS LAME HOME RUN BS GOING TO END SO I CAN WATCH CARLOS BOCANEGRA PLAY SOFTBALL VS KATE UPTON AND OTHERS?

Seriously it took over 3 hours, I wish they were all as short as Matt Holliday's round was.

HAHAHA is that a shot? Because I'm a Cardinals fan? You really killed me there. The joke ref would totally give you a straight red for that, lolol.

I think you are severely overestimating the knowledge that American's have of this sport, and yes I will admit that this includes me since it seems everyone else knew it but me and I don't have the excuse of not playing the sport. I swear to god though I've never been in a competitive game with a red card and Sunday was the most soccer I've ever watched on tv. I definitely wasn't a dirty player though.

No it wasn't... I had no idea you were a cardinals fan. I was checking the clock during the first round about how slow Cano and Gonzalez's rounds were and Hollidays was much faster, even faster than Weeks. The cubs are just about the worst team in baseball I can't exactly talk crap about any other teams. I'm not a dick I wouldn't bash you for that.

Nice, I was always a midfielder since I was also a runner and played Leftoutside MF in high school. I always made the joke that I was playing Left-out and had to explain that it was an actual position.

Yeah man, play it cool. Good call.

What makes you think I knew you were a cardinals fan though? I never post in the baseball forums and I have lost all hope in this franchise, I just mainly come to talk basketball.

Yes, it was the actual team not a soccer club or anything.

I keep thinking everyone in this thread is being trolled right now. He's serious, right?

My god yes, I didn't come into this thread to share my wealth of soccer knowledge, which I apparently have none. Maybe I had shitty coaches, maybe I was sick the day they talked about red cards, or maybe I just didn't give a crap and was off in my own world not listening.
