Finally watched the Hull match. Jozy got a very nice welcome from the crowd as he was introduced, and his very first touch was brilliant to set up Ghilas for the only goal. He should have scored a couple of minutes later, and had he actually played over the past month he probably buries it. He made a bad decision later on not laying off the ball after Ghilas hit the upright. Then had another great chance on a ball that looked very much like his goal vs. Spain in holding off the defender turning and shooting. Hull went from being dominated the 1st 60 minutes, to dominating pretty much the minute Altidore came on. His decision making will get better actually being with his team. You could tell he really really wanted a goal, and Hull could have score 3-4 after he came on.

I think he may have become an instant fan favorite today. Also Stephen Hunt looks like an hobbit.

edit: Also the Hull City crowd started a USA chant when Jozy came on right before the goal, very cool!

The multiple USA chants were hilarious. He combined awesomely with Ghilas and Geovanni, especially on the counter. Hull may not be all that boring this year. Jozy brings the missing ingredients of pace, touch and strength into their attack. He terrorized Bolton's back line. Those announcers were all over our guy's nuts.

I think once he gets his lungs back he'll be fantastic for them. I'm predicting double digit goals.

Edit - USS, there's no way United finish outside of the top 4 this year. None. I'd bet on it.

When are we getting Jermaine Jones?

Whenever he gets healthy. I'm thinking look for him during the October call ups.

Damn was hoping for Sept 5th and 9th.

The new rules go to effect October 1st. The reason Zamora and the other guy are immediately eligible for T&T is because they had no previous caps with any senior teams.

Rules are in effect now -- Jones has a broken leg.

I knew I had read somewhere that FIFA hadn't approved him yet, but didn't remember where. No Short Corners had a blurb about it today though.

Schalke's Jermaine Jones is still waiting for FIFA approval on his international switch (silly, ain't it?) and is still recovering from a shin fracture.

He seemed very anxious, and after the start he had I am sure his adrenaline was running like crazy. Hull were lucky not to give up one, and you could see where Tottenham were giving them problems. Myhill had a great game, I didn't realize he was American born even though he spent pretty much his entire life in England.

I don't see United finishing outside of the top 4 either, but outside of the top 2 is very possible.

Cesc left with a hamstring injury today. Pretty much the worst thing that could happen to Arsenal. He's probably out for the Celtic match which I don't care about, but could miss the United match on Saturday which would suck.

Lets bet an Objectivo shirt. I think they finish 5th, off of 4th by1 or 2 points. I just don't see how they are going to do it. Wigan sucked today-I don't see how the center of their midfield can hold up, especially against good competition. Scholes and Giggs are over it. Gibson and Fletcher are overrated. Hargreaves is on the side of a milk carton. They should let Anderson play a CAM role, but with Rio hurt, they need to help out defensively. Nani and Valencia are good-ish, and Rooney and Berba are class, but I just wonder about their ability to hold possession.

Arsenal/Chelsea/Citeh/Liverpool go top 4. I will say that the difference between 1st and 5th is going to be under 6 points. None of these teams are great.

Watching Jozy today was awesome. Too bad Phil Brown is a jackhole. He's going to net 10 this season for Hull, at least.

Haha, you're on! I'm totally counting on a January spending spree to help because I agree with everything you said.

I think Jozy missing that first chance where he lobbed it wide made him press a little which led to him making some decisions he maybe shouldn't have in terms of trying to go at his man instead of laying it off (especially on the rebound of Ghilas' shot from the counter w/Geovanni following behind), but he very clearly has shown to me at least that he has everything it takes to play anywhere in the world. Every level he's been at, including limited action at Villarreal, he's shown that potential to be a man among boys.

Right now I think United's biggest problem is in goal. I don't like Foster. I could see them drawing too many games, similar to what Arsenal did last year.

The january window is going to be the variable. SAF is sitting on that giant pile of Ronaldocash.

The worry I have with Hull and Jozy is that Phil Brown is the kind of manager that does stupid ish like jerk Geovanni around after their dream start last year, and shuffles his lineup like an impatient 4 year old.

Foster is overrated to be sure but Van der Sar will be back in what, six more weeks? A better midfield + Rio would mean he would be exposed less. He's going to be found out either way here.

Clint was up top today against Chelsea.

I noticed that, he also seemed to be tracking back a lot too. Though that might have been because of Chelsea controlling possession most of the game.

And as a result their midfield got worked all day.

They need striker depth badly. FFC would have been a much better fit for Jozy.

Villa are up 2 at half vs. Liverpool. Pretty much the worst start possible for them to the season, for a team that was expecting to compete for the title.

Looking at the stats on Gamecast:

Possession 68% - 32% for Liverpool

Shots (On Goal) 24(11) - 8(4)

This was also the first ever loss for them in a game where Torres scores. Friedal must have really been on today.

Jozy is starting today in the Carling Cup. I've read more than half a dozen articles about him in the English press since last weekend and it's been odd reading about an American player being the darling of the media. Everybody loves him and are raving.

He's scored once already in the 42nd. It's Hull 2-1 Southend at half time.

Next great hope/hypes sign with Hoffenheim

They are two of America's brightest youth stars: striker Joseph-Claude Gyau and midfielder Charles Renken.

The pair, close friends, have developed their big games together for the past two years with the U.S. national U-17 residency team in Bradenton, Fla. And Gyau and Renken will continue to thread the ball back and forth on speed runs up the pitch.

However, their development is moving from U.S. soil. Bundesliga upstart 1899 Hoffenheim has swooped in and will sign Gyau and Renken to multiyear contracts.

I like the idea of two of our best young stars a)developing together outside of the USSF setup and B) going to such an aggressive, up-and-coming, well-run team.

Hey retards, it's not the 80's anymore, nor is it a crappy Elijah Wood movie.

A man has been stabbed and violent battles have broken out between rival football fans in "large-scale" crowd trouble, police said on Tuesday night.

Hundreds of fans are involved in the disorder which police said was caused by people without tickets to the West Ham versus Millwall game who had planned to start trouble.

A spokesman for Metropolitan Police said more officers were being rushed to the scene outside Upton Park, in east London.

"There is large-scale trouble involving hundreds of fans which we are dealing with at the moment," he added.

Officers have made two arrests, one for disorder and the second for breach of a banning order.

Police said the stabbing, in Priory Road close to the stadium, is connected to the fighting and the man is being treated by paramedics.

Shocking West Ham and Millwall fans would go at it. Why wouldn't the London police be all over that before it resulted in a rumble?
